Yes, Zeus, I did the correct NOTEPAD save(save all), and it still did not work. That is what I am trying to say.

/sigh I have been lurking on these boards for a couple of years now. Have had wonderful results with MQ and even learned a bit :).

Let me see if I can try to explain how to save the .INI, .MAC or .INC with NOTEPAD.

1. Open notepad. (goto Start menu, Goto Run, Type Notepad and hit OK)
Notepad is now open.

2. Copy and paste your .INI or .MAC or .INC into NOTEPAD

3. Goto File menu on NOTEPAD Click Save As.

4. For filename put Anyfile.INI or Anyfile.MAC or anyfile.INC (notice what I did?? I put in the extension WITH the filename)

5. Change the Save As Type to All Files.

6. Click the Save button.

DONE, Working as intended.

If anyone has trouble understanding that I do truly feel sorry for you.

Behold.

Step one - empty notpad.

Step two - paste contents into notepad.

Step three - File->Save As.

Step four - Choose 'All Files' in the 'Save As Type' box.

Be sure to include the appropriate .mac or .inc extension.

On the off chance that you followed these steps exactly as outlined above and still did not get the desired result, your computer is broken and you need to buy a new one.

I GIVE UP.

I did save the files , exactly as has been described, yes, it is simple, yes, it is low level computer knowledge.

yes, I saved with ALL FILES type, yes I saved into the /release/macros folder.

And yet, STILL, the files did not work, until I stopped using Notepad, and started usung VC.net to create the files.

I do not know why I had this difficulty, the only reason I posted it this is becuase I had this problem, and PERHAPS some other new person will come and have the same problem.

I understand and accept that for most people they have acceptable results using NOTEPAD, I was only addressing those who DO have the same issues I ran into.

As I said in my original post, it is quite possible that some aspect of my setup is causing this anomalous problem.

Please note, I was NOT complaining, I was NOT asking for help, I was just reporting a result that was different than had been outlined in the tutorials.

I have no more to say about this.

I think what's so frustrating here is that your problem cannot exist unless you're doing something wrong

Perhaps it is time to reinstall my OS. You have a point, it does seem like a bug or a glitch....

BTW, your step by step with diagrams is awesome, it REALLY ought to be posted right with some of the other documentation.

Do you have Windows configured to show your file extentions? If not, that could possibly be causing the problem..

1) Go to My Computer

2) Go to Tools > Folder Options

3) Click on the 'View' tab.

4) Scroll down untill you see something along the likes of, "Hide extensions for known file types".

5) Make sure the box is unchecked.

Then close out all of your IE/Folder View explorers. Then you can simply right click on the file, if it is say.. macro.txt, and just simply going down to 'Rename' and renaming it to macro.mac, or includefilename.inc.

as to not working, the mac and inc files created by NOTEPAD and placed in the macros folder just were not seen, or run.

The fix was creating the files using VS.Net.

In both cases(NOTEPAD and VS.net), I was saving the files, SAVE AS, file type ALL FILES, with the correct ext of .mac or .inc.

The ONLY reason I posted the original comment was that I found I had a problem, and that I found a FIX, just incase any other person encounntered the same problem.

So was not asking for help, I was offering help to any other noob that encountered the sam problem

I bet there's some sort of problem with his Universal Serious Bus!

It can cause problems like this if you have a flatbed monitor hooked up to your modem.

If your computer doesnt have a Universal Serious Bus, go to add/remove hardware and add one.
If it comes up and says 'Press any key' then use the presser.
Also, check the settings in Internet Explorious.

If that fails, turn the modem off and back on (dont forget to turn the monitor off and on).

As a last resort, you might have to reboot the system with the CD's, or, if you're technical, you can find more info out with Colonel De'Bugger.

When I use notepad to cut. paste and save the files, I can name them anything I want, mymacro.mac macro.inc, macro.ini and they do not work. Viewing the folder shows that the file type displayed is TEXT File.

Windoze .. in it's efforts to make you smart by not showing you stuff .. by default HIDES the extensions for files it know what the extensions are for. files with the extension .txt, for example, it knows are text files .. so .. it hides the extension from you.

In the case above ... let's say you created a file called amacro.mac .. and another called ainclude.inc If you don't use the save all .. or the Win98 version of notepad is screwed .. whichever .. you end with files called amacro.mac.txt and ainclude.inc.txt ... though all you see are amacro.mac and ainclude.inc

The text editor in Visual Studio, on the other hand, understands that you really don't want every file to end in .txt.

If you want to explore this further ... in an explorer windows (you know, the "folder" view) ... Click the Tools Menu .. then Options .. then the "View" tab .. and one of the options on the list will be a check box for "Hide Extensions for Known File Types" ... unclick that and watch the lightbulbs pop.
