SEARCH =>> http://macroquest2.com/phpBB2/search.php
When doing searches, take note of the 2 radial buttons below the search parameter window, one is for "any term" the other is for "all terms" In many cases it is best to set that button on the "Search for all terms" choice.

HOW TO COMPILE PLUGINS =>> http://macroquest2.com/phpBB2/viewtopic ... c&start=20 or read the manual (RTFM: Read the Fucking Manual is what you normally get.)

HELP FOR PLUGINS Go to where you specifically got the Plugin and ask in that thread of that forum

HELP FOR MACROS Go to where you specifially got the Macro and ask in that thread of that forum

General help for MQ http://macroquest2.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=35

How to get flamed: Don't try search (look carefully before you use it, it has various settings that make a difference); post outside the place where you got the plugin or macro in question; ask for AFK macros and "active" hacks like the warp hack and godmode hack.

How to get the best response: Post in the appropriate places (see above); give detailed information about your trouble, if you have errors copy and paste them to the post using the code button above the edit window when posting, if necessary to put in a link that's fine use the URL tags to make the link active and try to stay on this site, people here don't fix the crap you get from other sources.

Need help with creating a macro from a post?
When using notepad to save copied macro code, you MUST change the SAVE AS window from text to all. If you fail to do this, your mac will become a text file.
http://macroquest2.com/phpBB2/viewtopic ... tepad+save
A note on macros: They all belong in the MACRO folder which is a sub folder under the "RELEASE folder which is a sub folder of your MacroQuest2 folder. Anyone who knows enough will know to adjust that last accordingly if they use a different subdirectory for the DLLs and the EXE. INC files and any other macro related files tend to belong in the same folder as the macros, UNLESS otherwise noted in the instructions for the macro.

I figure that with everything in that post, if they are really trying to find help, they will find it. If nothing else, copy the page for reference when someone asks for anything and you don't feel like typing it all out. LOL

Nice, naw, lazy... sure. hehe

A new problem?

Post by Mystic_Blue » Tue Jan 25, 2005 5:49 pm

As I got started, I found that when I cut and pasted macros ini and includes with notepad, they did not run, at all.

After some trial and error, I discovered this:

I use XP on my work computer, and use VS.net 2003

I play EQ on a win98 machine. I am not sure if those facts are relevant.

When I use notepad to cut. paste and save the files, I can name them anything I want, mymacro.mac macro.inc, macro.ini and they do not work. Viewing the folder shows that the file type displayed is TEXT File.

When I looked at the macros that come standard with MQ2, included in the release, they display a file type of MACRO FILE or INCLUDE FILE.

These do work.

Lastly, I found that if I first load up VS.net, then open a new file, cut and paste the macro/inc or ini into the blank document, then SAVE AS with the correct extension, AND set the file type to ALL, then they show up as MACRO , INCLUDE or CONFIGURATION files, and now work.

Not sure if there is a recent change to the MQ2 source, or some other factor, but for at least some of us, cut and paste into just any old text editor no longer works.

Just FYI

actually, no it does not.

Every where I read, INCLUDING the top post in this thread says cut and paste into NOTEPAD and save.

That does not work, at least not with the configuration I have.

To get working macs, incs and ini , pasting into notepad and saving does not produce working macs, incs and inis

PEBKAC then.

That, or they're not in the right folder ("release").

if you actually read my post carefully, you would know that I DID put the files into the /release/macros folder, along with the macros that come as part of the MQ2 release.

The files were there, and did NOT work.

Only after pasting them into a new doc IN vc.net, SAVE AS, file type ALL FILES file name macroxyz.mac did the macro become usable.

That was the entire point of my post that saving them in NOTEPAD generated unusable .mac .ini and .inc files.

Again, I do not know if this is a new problem, or a problem inheirent in MY computer set up. However, it MIGHT be why there has been some other noobs also having troubles with the posted instructions.

All I know is that files saved with NOTEPAD were unusable, the exact same files saved as I described above work fine.

Code: Select all

Every where I read, INCLUDING the top post in this thread says cut and paste into NOTEPAD and save.
Actually that alone just works, basic computer understanding: Files have extension so that a) it's easier for humans to know what a kind of file is for b) for programs to "mark" files as theirs. If you read everywhere that you should have .inc and .mac files and you're getting .txt files then you're doing somethign wrong. What are you doing wrong you ask? You told the software (notepad in this case) to save the file as a .txt. The act of "saving" a file is not just mindlessly clicking.

Anyway look at what I found using... search

Hell look at my posts in that thread. People here do help those that want to learn. Bitching about not getting help won't get you any points with those that would usually help you.

The thing is that I expect that anyone familiar with using notepad to save things as other than a TXT document would know to change that. It's true of most programs that save documents of any kind. Excell, Works, MS Word, WordPerfect, etc. If you don't change the "Save As" to ALL it will go to default.

Is it unreasonable for me and people like me to expect at least that much from anyone using a computer?

doh!

Yes, Zeus, I did the correct NOTEPAD save(save all), and it still did not work. That is what I am trying to say.

Oh well, like talking to a brick wall.
