Wondering how MQ2 works.

Post by gambit69 » Thu Jul 15, 2004 8:30 am

I know i'm probably going to get flamed for this (i've noticed the trend on here but.......) I was wondering how much of MQ2 is detectable by SOE? I was wondering if i'm just using the map features are they going to know i'm using them or is everything on my side and they would have no idea if i'm using the program or not. (i haven't seen anywhere that tells exactly how the program works just how to use it)

My main is a cleric and i love the corpse feature on the maps. I've done alot of CR's where the person I was getting the corpse for said he died in such and such zone but not exactly where though.

Also like using it like a tracking device for certain mobs. It's great just to zone into a safe spot and look at the map to see what is all in the zone and then basically leave..

so whether they can detect it or not i'm still going to use but sparingly though.

1) Yes, you are going to get flamed - at least if you didn't try searching first.
2) Speaking specificaly about the MQ2Map - It is displaying information already being sent to you anyhow. It does not "request" it from the server.

So to answer your question:
SoE knows and they are comming to beat you with a dead cat, then raid your fridge.

Edit: Dang! Drumstix42 beat me again! I gotta learn to type faster!

Ok Without Flame:
Just Loading up MQ2 and playing YOUR NORMAL game is "Most Likely" not going to get you detected and banned, but in your statement above you have already rulled this out, AS A CLERIC ( Without Tracking ) you find corpses for people who don't know where they are and run straight to certain mobs upon Zone In, this WILL get you banned. If an SOE employee advertises in POK he needs someone to find his corpse in XXX but does not know where it is and you say "ill find it" then run straight to it he does not know you use MQ2 BUT he can have you flagged to see what else you do, then logs are checked and they discover you run to certain mobs on Zone In, YOUR SCREWED.

This Forum and software is here for one reason - To Allow YOU to do things in game that you may or may not be able to do normally. BANNABLE.

This software is againts the EULA - BANNABLE.

SOE have access to these boards and i would almost guareentee have members here posting info and sharing the community and access to the same macros you and i have. They could easily scan chat logs for /t XXX BUFF ME, /t XXX Camp.

ALLWAYS use this SOFTWARE and expect to get banned next time you log in. If you don't then great you managed to beat SOE ONE more day.

WITH FLAME:

JESUS FUCK - How many people ask the same fucking question on these boards IF YOU USE MQ2 then you WILL GET BANNED if Caught.

Have Fun

No you wont get caught and no they cant detect you using it unless -

1. you crash and somehow you get to send the bug report.
2. you do something way outside the scope of your character (eg, target a mob across the zone and run to it as a wizard or cleric while in plain view of a guide or gm)
3. you do a /report and dont use mq2chatwnd and send some mq2 output with your /report.
4. you are a complete cock and make it obvious you are macroing by AFK fighting for 3 weeks straight at the zoneline to busyzone01.

MQ2 doesnt cheat, it uses a valid windows technique, and there is nothing wrong with that. MQ2 isnt the only software you are using right now that also uses the same methods. Its been around for donkey's years. Its something to bear in mind the next time you load your in-memory virus monitor, because sony have about as much change of finding that as they have MQ2.

Only the user will get you banned. If you are a total spastic, you will be banned. If you use it intelligently (as it is written), then chances are no-one will ever know you use it.

Basically, shut your fucking mouth in game and you will be fine. Advertise that you can do special shit and you will not only get yourself caught, but you will piss off the entire populace of this board by stupidity and get flamed by the developers and users alike.

AS A CLERIC ( Without Tracking ) you find corpses for people who don't know where they are
I don't suspect that a cleric being able to find a corpse would be too suspicious, but it all depends on how easily it is done. There are plenty of items with Locate Corpse on it that will face you in the direction of the corspe, so as long as you make it 'look' like you're using some form of locate corpse, you would be fine.

But then you may ask, "Well then they could see if I'm using a locate corpse item or not, right?" Well it depends. The only GMs that can actually see that kind of information are GM-Admins and Head-GM Drognir, and I'm sure they have nothing better to do since they don't answer petitions....lol.

Anyways, SoE has the technology to actually hack into your computer and see what processes you're running, and unless you are a programmer and changed your MacroQuest.exe to say something like GoofyProgram.exe, then they could potentially track you without you even using any features.

Now, BEFORE PEOPLE FLAME ME FOR SAYING THAT!!! I said "SoE has the technology." I didn't say that they actually do it. That would be illegal and why would SoE do something illegal? <cough> <cough>. Anyways, enough said.

First of all, shitforbrains, why would they _need_ to 'hack' you (yes, we know, we know - SOE has emplyed a team of blackhats just to steal my pr0n (I swear, she said she was 18))? You're already running a process you downloaded from them that uses your network connection. If they were actually dumb enough to snoop anyones running processes, they'd be in court before you could spell 'lawsuit' (actually, being you, I'd say before you could find the letter 'L', but that's just me).

Second, why would being a programmer help you do jack with MacroQuest.exe? You can change the name of the executable as much as you like with a simple right-click|rename. Being a programmer won't do nothing for you (again, you wouldn't know, I think it's fair to say you've showed everyone the limit of your skills in another thread), as you don't have access to the sourcecode for MacroQuest.exe.

Cause being sued by a couple of hundred thousand people in a few dozen countries, and losing, would be very, very expensive?
