ALERT: Targeting messed up

Post by nahsalot » Mon May 03, 2004 8:02 pm

when you target someone far way, it gives you the positiion of their last known whereabouts and not where they actually are if they are out of range! Not sure if this is a nerf or a bug.

It won't send info for other players outside of a certain radius of your character unless you are in the group with that person. It has nothing to do with MQ2, it is a way for EQ to use minimal network resources.

been happening for awhile now. Has always affected trying to track players. Sometimes the tracking skill would lead to a totally different side of the zone then were they are.

I have a distance / heading built into my UI. I have not had any problems with tracking players until now.

Even MQ2 map shows them in the wrong place now, which hadn't before.

Weird, maybe I just got lucky.

this is one of the many "features" of the new graphics engine. one of the ways they minimize both net and video lag is to transfer and process less info on toons that are behind you or quite distant from you. this is why when you turn around quickly at a raid you see many people falling briefly to their actual positions (anyone coming into your viewing frustum has their state immediately updated in your client). it is also why you get the annoying "walking sounds" constantly if someone walks behind you or you turn your back on someone walking. the new eq engine is has incorproated a lot more "lazy" processing, with good and bad results.

also, why is this in "Bug Reports" as it is not an mq2 bug but a new feature of eq ?
