The simple answer is 'no'.

I think it might be possible, but is more trouble than it's worth. You'd do better begging someone to compile it for you, or even offering $ to someone to compile it for you. *shrug*

ok, another update.. well sorta.

I was looking through all my old cd's and i have a copy of visual basic (censor: i'm an idiot; please ignore me) 6.0 and visual studeo 97, and 6.0

Which if any should I install and run to compile macroquest?

Visual Studio 6.0 could do it ...you'll need to review the postings in the forums for compiling with visual c++ 6.0

Flashfire, send me a PM with your EMail address, and I'll try to send you out a ZIP with the latest compile.

Though I'd be careful taking a version compiled by anyone you don't know, never know what malicious things people will do..

I use Visual Studio 6.0 to compile. Works perfectly.

hmm

Post by Flashfire » Wed Sep 03, 2003 2:41 pm

OK, reviewed the software I had and installed what I could.

I have VP 6.0 Pro, VS 6.0 service pack, and MSDN library on VS 6.0.

So in short I do not have VS, just VB 6.0.. Will just this work?

I am also sorry for the sporatic responces. I work 10 hours a day on the midnight shift and with the 45 minute communte one way I really don't get that much time to work out the kinks.

No, the reason you need Visual Studio is for Visual C++. You won't be able to compile with a standalone visual basic (censor: i'm an idiot; please ignore me) version.

omg, I checked on 3 websites that sell VS 6.0.. and the CHEAPEST price i could find is $599.99.

I might be a dumbass and not know where to look, so if anyone knows any websites I can order VS 6.0+ from that is cheaper than that.. please post here or PM me.

VS 6

Well, VS 6.0 is kind of outdated, I'm not sure if MS still produces it. As much as many people hate the .NET framework, it defintely has some nice features. If you are a college or high school student with an ID, you can go to your local college bookstore and get VS.NET Academic for 99.99USD. Ebay also is a place to search... Definitely worth 99.99. As for 6.0 being bought, I'm not sure, but 599.99 seems to be kinda pricey. If you go with Enterprise it may be that high, but for just a single license I'd be willing to be it'd be more around 299.99 at the most... You can also just look for Visual C++ 6.0... You don't really need the studio, just a microsoft c++ compiler for all those ghetto libraries that aren't ansi c compliant :).

Good luck on your search, and I hope whoever offered you a compiled exe's hard drive locks up tonight. If the devs wanted to add an executable to the zip, it would be done. NEVER trust random people's executables, people love to play with other people's hard drives. It is harmless unless you do any online banking, or auctions, then it becomes very risky, and can ruin one's credit (unless you have that capital one no hassle card that the orcs come to kill the guy until they find out he has that card, i love that commercial for some reason...)

Peace.

It has been mentioned before but ...

You can usually find a Learning VC++ book at your local Barnes and Nobles or Borders that includes a NFR copy of VC++. Since VS.NET has been out for a while now, there may even be a version that includes C++.NET. The books usually run for no more than $50

OR you can get a book with that trial version, as a matter of fact, i have an unused trial license that came with my visual c++ book... It's on a dvd though... so I wouldn't be able to email it to you..
