Changes on Test

Post by Kambic » Wed Jul 21, 2004 2:40 am

New changes, emphasis added on MQ2 addition:
Tuesday July 20th Update

- Augments can now fit into multiple slot types. On an augment the text could read "This augment can fit in these slot types: 3, 4".

- Zoning pets will now properly save their taunt toggle settings.

- Spell damage messages done to yourself will no longer be displayed for others. Cannibalize and Mana Convert spells were examples of this.

- Summoning a Sand Giant in Oasis with Monster Summoning will no longer cause your pet the next time you zone to be HUGE! Monster Summoned pets will no longer save their size

- Pets will no longer poof when you get Call of Hero'd.

- Weapon augmentations will again proc properly

- The EverQuest process is now more friendly. There is also a slider bar to set your Max. FPS. in the Options window under display settings. This will free up more resources while running EQ. Also, when EQ loses focus it will use less resources.

- New commands for consent:

/consent group -- flags your current corpses so they can be dragged by all of your current group members

/consent raid -- flags your current corpses so they can be dragged by anyone in your raid (including people who join the raid later)

/consent guild -- flags your current corpses so they can be dragged by anyone in your guild

/deny group -- removes the flag

/deny raid -- removes the flag

/deny guild -- removes the flag

Damn cheap SoE, didn't want to cough up $10.00 to get access to it again so they coded it into the game (test only for now).
Fuck writing MQ2 macros. Go with IS scripts; IS Rules!

Lax's version will still be better anyways.

So that's what, the 5th or 6th macroquest feature for them to implement?

Well, they are good features that MQ2 provides. But as SoE cant stop anyone from using MQ2, because it does nothing wrong in how it works and its Windows that allows the technique, they may as well look at making it less appealing to the general simple users by providing the functionality in game. Those who use scripts or plugins will continue to use MQ2, but a small minority may stop using it, esp those who just used it so they can run multiple sessions on the same machine. Of course you can use eqplaynice, but that will be affected too. It may well do more stuff, but how much more do you care about if the changes SoE have made work good enough? Its like being happy with a Ford that works well, even though a Ferrari would be better to get that few extra percent. How much trouble is it worth to an average user?

I'm no expert on reverse engineering, but I'd be curious to see (if its at all possible) how similar their code is to Lax's plugin, since the source was available.

I think they're just spreading out their updates, so programs like MQ2 have to keep being updated ;)

Clearly this is the result of some higher up missing the great ultility that MQ2FPS is.

They're not missing anything. Lax has provided the utility (at least some of it) supplied by FPS in EQPlayNice, which is still free. Then again, it is pretty fishy that as soon as it's removed from MQ, it shows up on test.

Not only are they not releasing source, but technically they are chargeing for the software, which if I remmber correctly, is another GPL no no.

Actually, they're not charging for the software. You can download the base EQ trilogy install from eqftp.station.sony.com, install that, patch to the new-style patcher, and download all expansions without ever paying a dime. That doesn't mean you can play on a SOE server, although you could probably play an updated emu server. :)
