Search really is broken

Post by Zxeses » Sat Dec 27, 2003 8:08 pm

Go to search.

Now type in Fish.mac

press the search button. What do you get? I got 1088 messages, and if any of them contained the term fish.mac, it certainly was not obvious.

My immediate guess would be that it's using the . in .MAC as a seperator and is searching for either FISH or MAC

Though my .MAC search came up as 1060 and FISH came up with 101, so go figure...

Search found 54 matches

and fish with fishermans companion was the second hit on the list... I used fish.mac and search for all terms to get this result...

Ok, so "fish AND mac" works great.

Now, can we have the "." (period) problem fixed? Or at least, document it on the search page so that those of us who read docs will know what to expect?

It's a forum search utility... a fairly standardized thing.... not sure if it would be wise to change it... thenpeople like me who are used to the standard would get ownz0red.

The "." is a search parameter.

Just like if you used google and you put "The Hand"&"The Fist" .. It would only show pages with those two phrases in them, respectively.

It is something parsed through the PHP handler on the server, and was meant to be there.

Any reason why a search for "time" comes up empty?

At least a search for "search" worked. :? .

-z

Edit: tried some others.
"zone" works and so does "zoner"
"sear" as in search, does not work, "search" does work.
"time" does not work, but "timer" does works. "$time(h):$time(m)" does'nt work either.
