What compiler are you using?
Open the readme.html in the Release folder. Scroll down to the compiling process instructions. What you're looking for should be in there.
I use Visual Studio .NET 2003 and by following EXACTLY the instructions for .NET 2003 compiler in the readme.html resolved the same problem I was having.

Make sure if you are using .NET that you open the .SLN file and not the .dsw or .dsp file.
I made this mistake and had your exact results.

Guys, I really think that anyone who's able to install, and most importantly *USE* Vistual Studio (any version)" should be able to read and understand simple instructions. Thanks for tips though.
Answering to your questions - i was using VS6 SP5
any other ideas whats going wrong?

Don't know, and honestly, the way you replied to the people who offered suggestions doesn't really inspire me to try to help.
I don't see them calling you a noob, or harrassing you in any way, but it is obvious that you get offended easily.
Good luck.

I dl'd MQ and compiled it and it doesnt work.
Could you possibly be a little more vague?
/boggle
Most of the people who *know* how to use VS seem to have little problem getting MQ to run. Opening a project and clicking compile does not imply "knowing how to use" VS.

Judging from your broken English, do you play EQ on an European server or with non-English text? Either of these will break MQ I am pretty sure. I think if you do a search you will see the devs say many times that MQ is basically designed to work on an English server with English client.

Just a guess.. this is not the first time i see this problem.. did you do
/filter macros all
This is probly your problem.. i always to this when i compile a new version
and also just to make sure.. turn on the MAPFILTER if you want the map to show pc's and npc's and all the options with it.
/mapfilter all show
/mapfilter <options> show

MQ is designed to work with the US release of EQ only. The euro and chinese EQ game is often a few patches behind and they have different offsets.
