3d card setting question

Post by Amadeus » Wed Jul 24, 2002 5:16 pm

Should I enable or disable "Wait for Vertical Sync" in my 3d card settings when using EverQuest?

I hate all these direct3d options ..... they're impossible to interpret unless you're into all this stuff ;)

Enabling VSync tells it to limit the rendering speed to that of the Refresh Rate of your Monitor.

Enabling it tells your Video Card to stop sending data till the monitor finishes drawing the currect screen. This produces a "smoother" image, which is generally preferred.

Disabling it can cause "tearing", which makes it look like the screen was partially rendered before the next screen update arrives, as your monitor dumps partial data to your screen while trying to keep up with the data still coming from your Video Card.

Think of it as a Metered Freeway Onramp. It's designed to make sure everybody gets on without causing excess congestion.
Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one, but most of them stink.
