Chat Events not working for me

Post by rtfmoz » Wed Jul 09, 2003 8:02 pm

#chat say

sub Main
:MainLoop
/doevents
/delay 1s
/echo Loop
/goto :MainLoop
/return

sub Event_Chat
/echo "chat event"
/return

I get the following output

Loop
Loop
Loop
You say Hail, Soandso
Loop
Loop
Loop

So why doesnt it pickup the hail?
(prolly a syntax problem but I cant see it)

Hm... You're not the only person to have this problem.

Just for kicks, try it without the /delay 1s.

Let us know.

last I heard, you can't catch your own text in an event... try /echo says, 'Hail, Soando'

maybe I'm wrong

FFS

And these guys think the manual has enough info in it. I am doing the simplest stuff and it dont work. Typical coders writing there own misleading and useless doco. Ah well at least they tried. Now I will put my money where my mouth is and re-write the section on events and what they laughingly call variables but are in fact built in functions and system vars. Their about as consistant as perl :/ Hey! yeah Im bagging you out but not all that seriously...doco generally sucks and writing it sucks even more so I will shut the hell up now and produce something readable so the masses can use MQ with ease.

Documentation.

Post by grimjack » Thu Jul 10, 2003 2:40 am

Who do you mean by "these guys"? Nobody ever said the documentation was totaly up to date and accurate. For the most part, however, the information that is there is enough to get you going. Keeping the documentation up to date is very dificult. Every time sony patches, any number of things could break(some of which may not be found for a while). Also, every patch submited can cause problems with other portions of code(which also may not be found for a while). While I'm glad that you are going to help with the documentation, scolding the people who keep this running, without pay and using volunteer time, is a little silly.

Thanks
GrimJack

Developers scolding users for not RTFM on barely adequate documentation gets my goat hence my post on the matter.

Barely adequate or not, if the answer is in the documentation, pointing a user to it is not a bad thing. I did not see anyone tell you to RTFM anyway when you asked your question.

Thanks
GrimJack.
