Ok! Me again! This time with Compiling Questions :P

Post by Draekz » Thu May 01, 2003 3:20 pm

OK here's the deal, I think i get the hang of compiling and adding files to projects, but the Q i have is, what do i compile each folder as?

Detours - ?
EQLib - .dll??
Macroquest - .exe?
MQEXT - ??
PerlCore - dll??

Any of those right? And if so please lemme know, if not please correct them. I cant believe each one is compiled as an .executable file.

Hmm anyway thanks for any info. Also is there a readme.txt on what to compile each source as? or is it just one of those things that are supposed to be straightforward.. bleh this is much more complicating than learning macroquest programming was back in the day rofl. woo

Hmm in the meantime my searches for tutorials on how to compile in VC have gotten nowhere :P

Ahh well take care all and thanks for any help provided

"compile each folder" makes no since at all. You dont compile folders. You are creating two projects in a workspace. Thats how you get started. Punt, runback, start over.

LOL i didnt mean "the folder itself" i just meant the data in each folder :P

I know u dont compile the actual folder, just the files in the folder..what i wantedt o know was, in order to compile it, you have to tell the VS program what you want to compile it as (DLL, EXE, and whatever all the other things are).

My question was, what do i compile the detour stuff as? do i just start a new executable project and stuff those files into the project and compile? or do i just open those files and compile them as they are? bleh *Shrugs* i just dont quite get it thats all ;) As i said in previous post, will continue to look for more tut's on google :P

Later

You don't compile PerlCore or MQext...

Detours simply type nmake in the directory you extracted it in or use the precompiled ones.

Seems as though you're going about this completely the wrong way friend.

If you have already compile detours and copied the required files to your Visual Studio folder, then just open the solution, compile eqlib, compile macroquest.. you don't have to mess around with anything else..
Fuck you, I have enough friends.

Heyo!

Ok, when i tried compiling Detours, it gave me a file called detours.plg (or something of that nature). Am i wrong to presume its supposed to be a DLL?

Also, I've gotten further inthis compiling stuff!

I made a workspace project with Macroquest and EQLIB in it. Anyway besides that, i do understand the basics now.

Question is, where/what file is this DX8.1 im supposed to link to? Is it in /system32? Am i supposed to download the source for DX from microsoft?

Also i got the similar 24 errors thing that most people seemt o be getting as well as a "Cannot compile cl.exe" but i dunno what CL is lol

Hmm..ok well anyway, one more question, hopefully you'll understand what im trying to say this time!

When I go to compile Detours (using visual C++6) I have to create a new project. Now this new project I have to create has to compile as a file of some sort, whether it be a dll, an exe or whatever...so what KIND of project do i add it to? a Win32 Application? A win32 Console Application? A Win32-Dynamic Link Library??

Thats what i need to know and still dont quite grasp..I've tried making it as a DLL but it comes out with NO errors and a PLG file? i also think maybe because im using an OLD source version that maybe the compilation is diff for the new one off cvs?

Bleh funny cuz i never really figured myself as "one of the newbs" this compiling stuff was trying to block! Yet here i am! Now one of the newbs rofl..love how life plays games on ya :P

Hmm all the same IM sure i'll eventually figure it out :) thanks much for the help tho!

The latest CVS has pre-compiled detours and includes the DX header file that you need. check out : http://macroquest2.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2178

But it is obvious that you are not reading a damn thing on this board because if you had you would find specific instructions on building detours and much, much more in this thread:
http://macroquest2.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1940

Its all here... many, many others have built this project from the information at hand, you can too.

Good luck.

Hey! I finally got it working :)

Thing is, It doesnt seem to work 100 percent. I tried it twice on same computer with two diff accounts..on first account, it crashed to Desktop bringing up the debug menu for EQgame.exe

Running the same thing on the second account (with no changes to the files) and it runs perfectly!

Now only two things i can think of..it just doesnt work all the time, it doesnt work in all zones or the custom UI i put on my "first" account fekks it up!

Any ideas? thanks!

Crashes like that are typical of wrong offsets. Double check your ini files.

Make sure you've downloaded the LATEST source from the CVS repository.
