Donations and Organization Clarification

Post by Amadeus » Thu Feb 24, 2005 2:32 am

I have received a few questions in regards to how Lavishsoft and Inner Space fit into the whole scheme of MQ2, donations, etc. Hopefully these bullets of information will clarify many of those concerns/questions.

1. Lavishsoft has nothing to do with the MQ2 project other than the fact that the owner of Lavishsoft (Lax) is one of the devs that has been involved in the MQ2 project for a long period of time. He has been responsible for a large quantity of the innovations that has made MQ2 the project that it is today.

2. When you donate to the MQ2 developers through the MQ2 website, that money is indeed divided as you indicate. For example, if you say that you want the money evenly distributed amongst the current active devs (which is basically Myself, Lax, and DKAA), that is what happens. Although the money goes through the Lavishsoft paypal account, it does so only because that is convenient for us.

If you are truly bothered by going through this route, you are always welcome to donate to devs individually via the private email paypal accounts that are listed on the primary website.

3. When you donate to MQ2 you are not donating or purchasing anything related to Lavishsoft or Inner Space. That money goes exclusively to support the manpower that is developing MQ2.

4. When you buy a subscription to Lavishsoft (ie, Inner Space) you are not donating to the MQ2 project. Only the owner(s) of Lavishsoft will receive your payment.

5. The ISXEQ plugin for Inner Space is included on our forums here because it is basically a 'port' of MQ2 to the Inner Space format. (somewhat similar to how someone might rewrite a PC game to run on a Macintosh). However, again, it is not a part of the MQ2 project per se. MQ2 is an open source, GPL application and the devleopers of MQ2 are not necessarily active or involved in the ISXEQ (although they can be).

MQ2 will continue to be developed and maintained as its own application alongside any other projects that may come along to augment its existance. It will not be dropped or replaced. (Though, at some point far in the future, the features of other applications or even ISXEQ may surpass the features of MQ2 ..that is impossible to tell at this point.)

Questions in regards to this can be posted on this thread: http://www.macroquest2.com/phpBB2/viewt ... 2824#82824

I will add that the reason the donations to me or to be split between developers go through Lavish Software is because the PayPal account is now used by Lavish Software. It used to be a personal account, but when I set up Lavish Software's automated payment processing, I switched it to a business account. The donations do still get split as they always have (as explained by Amadeus), but because theyre going through the same account used to handle payments to Lavish Software, I could also automate VIP donations for MQ2 developers, as long as the donation went through my account.

Amadeus's information is absolutely accurate. Have fun :)
