question about soulmarks

Post by Katzmeow » Sun May 22, 2005 3:17 pm

I was reading in another post about GM authority and came across this bit
2.5.0 EULA Violations

The Guide Program does not have the authority to warn or otherwise reprimand any players suspected of violating the EVERQUEST USER AGREEMENT AND SOFTWARE LICENSE. The Guide+ may soulmark the account (i.e., "/praise NOTE: Player has admitted to sharing his account with guildmates") but any official warning must be done by a CSR.
and I wondered if there is any way to see what the soulmarks are on your account? Can you see how many or what they are for? or is that GM only info.

If SoE were professionals, they would have this information available for us on request. Any other company is usually willing to release tracking information about their clients.

Nah, I do cust service work. Sometimes get acocunts that are like "Customer is very rude and uses profanity" etc... that stuff would just piss customers off even more... but its good for the CSR to know.

Yes, but in an organization where records of users are open, the techs are told so they don't put crap like that in the records.

Soul marks are now used primarily as notes, and all the information is stored server side. If you were to view a person's soulmarks you would see every time they petitioned written on them. Soulmarks cover every character on your account, i believe its regardless of server but i'm not sure.

Soulmarks are for the account but unless they've changed in the past few years, they are tied to a specific server (and there is a web-based database which notes the server but lets you search for them all). Since the web database is more comprehensive and doesn't require a GM to log into the game to access, it's preferred by Sony. Also, the (in-game) soulmarks are limited to 10 per account per server, the 11th bumps the 1st away. Their web interface doesn't have that limitation.

The in-client code to view and set soulmarks is there but it requires the server to cooperate, and the server requires you to have a GM flag with an avatar level of at least Guide. Guides and Senior Guides don't have a special client (though it was rumored that Elder Guides, who have no avatar level of their own so are given the lowest GM level -- GM-Staff?) were given a special client. I'm dubious about that being true because of Sony's security requirements. If it is true, in recent years there were no more than 5 or 6 Elder Guides, so who knows.

Again - two year old info for me, I don't know how much of it is still accurate today. More info than ya wanted, I'm sure ;)

If you want to know what your soulmarks say, find a Guide or GM online and ask. Unless they see something really outrageous, they will likely tell you what marks are on your record.

Soulmarks do not contain a record of every petition filed unless your server had really anal guides/GMs.

Soulmarks DID contain notes from GMs about item reinbursement and/or exp recovery.

With the new ticketting system, there is almost no reason for GMs to put soulmarks on accounts when handling petitions since they can see everything anyway. The soulmarks were more for the Guides when they still acted as tier 1 support.

Side note: Guides can and will soulmark accounts for good roleplaying or bad language. Though these things don't really hve any direct bearing on your account standing, a Guide may be more inclined to find people they know were good sports when running interesting quests.
