Turning off Read Only on a folder

Post by Vertigo » Thu Dec 30, 2004 1:24 pm

So, as of the recent patch. I tried installing with the newest files. Made a new folder, set up the files, and turned off read only, followed instructions. And nothing had changed ...

I look, I can't find any of the files that should've been compiled, no MQ2 Icon, etc. So I double check, and the folder is still set to Read Only, so I uncheck the little box and go through the steps again. Same luck this time. So, I decided to have a look to see if what I thought was happening really was ... I clicked properties on the folder, unchecked the read only tab. And hit accept and closed the little box, clicked properties again ... and the Read Only tab was still checked.

Any ideas? My hair is in short supply over this problem.

It doesn't, that's the problem. The folder that I have the files in when I begin compiling is set to read only. And I can uncheck the box and hit apply, and it will appear to be fine, then I start up VS to compile, and it doesn't work properly. I mean, it goes through the motions, output says no errors, etc. But, nothing's been changed in the folder. And after doing a little more looking around, every folder on my computer seems to have Read Only on it now. And I can't take it off.

THe output window in the compiler will tell you where it put the binaries.

If you can't use a computer you are fucked and nothing anyone types on this board will help you.

Get to a point where you are able to build a project on your system and then come back for help if you still need it.

Solution
Upgrade from Windows 3.1 to Windows Xp

At this point we dont know a number of things to even start helping you.

1) What OS?
2) What compiler?

are good for a start

Nevermind, I forgot how internet anonimity makes it easier to be an asshole.

But, to answer these questions.

A: I'm using Windows XP, I don't use Service Pack 2.
B: I'm using Visual Studio to compile.
C: The problem, turned out to be a virus that Norton was not finding. It was setting every folder on my computer to Read Only, a simple regedit later and the problem was fixed.

Perhaps I was unclear in my previous post, however, I was not saying it was a problem compiling. I said it was a problem removing the Read Only tag from the folder I wanted to compile the folders to. Learn to read before you flame fucktard.

At any rate, thanks for trying to help dont_know_at_all.

Silly us for trying to help him with a "real" problem instead of just assuming it was a virus he got from bigtits.exe

You guys need to invest in punching bags or something. Sometimes people say some really stupid things, and sometimes you just pull these comments out of your ass and it's like.. what?
