noob question for the masters

Post by Mouz » Wed Oct 23, 2002 3:51 pm

I decided to look into MQ because I had seen a dillweed post on Safehouse about making 55k/hr or some stuff. Didn't really think about going to route of afk money making due to twisted moral fiber, but I did consider the applications towards somewhat painless skill leveling.

After a read through your boards and kicking around some other sights I've come to the conclusion this isnt for me. Not mind you that I would'nt use something like this for easy skill ups without the carpal tunnel, but more for the fact I havnt a lick of skill when it comes to even basic programming. Well I can use most simple eq macros already built into the game I guess but that is quite a hop and skip to the level of programming that seems to be required in MQ.

plus the risk < reward for someone who cant afford a second account or dosnt know anything about roaming IPs and such.

So now that I've gotten my own ineptness out of the way let us talk of the not so brilliant minds and motives of others shall we.

I'm not the type of chap who would deny others pleasure becuase I myself cannot pertake in the fruit...forbidden or not. On the other hand I realize that some of you here have legitamite concernes and the skills to address those.

Not that I am policing my server (how boring would that @#$% be) but I have gotten more sensative to the actions of others after reading some of the posts here. Like if I see two folks on <that> server in the <this> zone having a hot sticky three way with some overworked vendor I can pretty much Sherlock my way to an idea of whats going on.

My question is if I see someone blatently running a 56kpp/hr macro or something similiar should I go out of my way to put this person out of their misery? Or should I let the law of nature take its course and let the person be permabanned all on their own?

I figure the more nood twithead people that get banned the less time that Verant may take in rushing to death nerf somewhat more legit (if not legal) MQ programs.

i say send the a tell and as what they are doing, a "Hello this is GM-<Enteryournamehere>, may I ask what your doing?"
and if they respond, then leave em alone cause they are at least doing it while they are at the computer and you'll still scare them shitless...
if they dont responds burn the bitches, thats the kind of person tha gives MQ a bad name =\
- afk

PS. jsut incase anyone gets the wrong idea about me, i dont actually do anything afk, just didnt want to use any former aliases or my real name, so i figured this would be cool, lol...

Don't sent tells impersonating gm's. It's instaban offense... we just lost a guildie last week to it, and in that case it was all done in fun.

Hah okay no worries about impersonating a GM I'm pretty sure I remember that its a big no no. I try and keep up on what I can and cannot do within the rules. I like to bend to the point of almost breaking but sometimes gms will go ape sheet on you if you even get close to any lines they happen to draw...depending on if their dog died or whatnot.

I'm sorta curious I think that the money making macros use a dummy noob like 1st level to hold the money made? Or at least if they are smart they do on a red server. How often is the money dumped? after each combine/sell or is it after a certain number of sells to reduce that amount of interaction between toons?

I figured they also used the noob toon on another account so they could delete it afterwords and create a blind so the money wouldnt be able to be tracked.

Just try and talk with them. If they don't respond or are macroing in a flagrant fashion kill them off if you can. Or at least disrupt them. Its a bad Idea to talk openly about MQ in any type of chat even tells because they can still be read. That is if GM pulls the log. Any how try to discorage it in a way that does not bring attention to MQ. =)

Will attacking a toon who is macroing disrupt the macro?

Or will they keep mindlessly doing it regardless of how much you beat on them?

Well, I dont think you can attack a toon unless you are on a PvP server.

Putting a copper up in the trade window will probably annoy them though.

Seems your ok with letting them Macro or not.
But near the end of your post, you seem to set a limit of how much UN partake you can stand.

I would go with Don't ask, Don't Tell.

I think the less times the 2 letters MQ show up the better and especially when conversing with GM's.

Since Sony entertainment has already set a limit on how much exploit they will allow, they will do one of 3 things on their own:
1) Patch EQ with nerf to profits at merchants.
2) Strip the character blind while they Macro AFK
3) Warn the player with a short ban / vacation.

They really hate Xylobot. Few people early on got banned just for talking about it in game.
They know they cannot stop *hacking* since programs on computers are always vulnerable to it in some form or other.. So they draw them selves a line.. After all, they are employing hundreds of people at decent wages on a 24 hour basis.
They do realise that the macroing end of things will exist, but they also need to keep it trimmed.
Remember they like to eat, and drink and sleep with hot babes at night too so they won't cripple their money tree to the point where it is not enjoyable to play.
And that means they even have to *let* some people go so far before pulling the plug on them.
Besides all that, the more EQ is associated with anything that reaches public eye, is still Advertisement to them.. it draws people in.. it gets another subscriber even if just for 1 paid month.

They also will not mention the name of the macroing programs so to reduce the amount of Trimming they need to do Because that relates to over time paid for programmers, brainstormers, debuggers, down equipment etc etc..
It's a business. They are in it for the money. Your in it for <fill in reason here>.

Just let it be friend. Those people will perma-Ban themselves.
Last note. I don't believe for a second that an alchemy skill is allowing that much plats to be made, i read the posts.. it reads to me like it was the same person logged in as different users, posting much the same thing... Which smells like scam to me. Possibly raising attention to sell their macro, or bomb, or trojan, or what ever.

Peace

If you want to disrupt a blatant AFKer, just attack the vendor and run to zone.

I wish that worked on afk macroers

Post by Repard » Thu Oct 24, 2002 3:24 pm

Me and a friend did that the other day. Attacked the mercant and ran to the zone. Doesn't work all the time. Merchant goes to the zone and then returns back and person returns to macroin'. Atleast that's what we saw. He was afk the whole time. Then a gm came and summoned him. That was the end of his afk macroin.

Just what I saw.

Thanks for the replys your right I'm not to worried about MQ per say. It's those pesky afk guys that seem to bring out the worst in me though.

And yes...I am on a pvp server. So I figure if I poach a few afk MQrs then we ALL benefit! 8P
