Strange performance while in focus

I've been using MQ2 since I think Friday or Saturday and this issue wasn't noticable at first, but now it seems to happen more and more often. It's mainly when I am in a crowded area, and sometimes when I'm not, but eq will get real choppy - UI, mouse, everything. All this while it's in focus. It seems to only happen when running MQ2 and doesn't seem to matter if I run a script or not. The only thing I can think of causing it would be the map stuff, but I don't have the map open all the time. Does it still process all the map stuff when the window isn't open? Should I turn off all the map spawns when I'm not looking at it?

Edit: Ok scratch the map idea. I unloaded the map plug-in and it's still doing it, mainly in PoK, Bazaar, and other Pop zones. Any suggestions?

Need some more information. Are you using any non standard plugins? Which compiler do you use?

Only using the plugins it came with, minus irc and telnet and eqim. Compiled with VS.net (2002?). It's like the game is pausing every half second or something. It didn't happen the first couple days of use, so not sure whats up. If you've ever had logging on and had a 50 meg log file, it is kinda like that when you get spammed. It pauses to write each line to the huge file, but I don't have any logs turned on and not sure what could be constantly writing to disk if anything. It happens the most in Bazaar, PoK, and Highkeep (which confuses me a bit, as its usually empty) it seems. Not many other zones really.

I had this problem for a while beginning about 3 or 4 patches ago. Lax posted to another person also having a similar problem that (if I recall correctly) the player captions were very cpu intensive, and the command

Code: Select all

/caption player4

should clear it up. Worked for me.

Thank you, Groo, I will try it out today. I did try to turn off as many of the name re-colorings that I could, and I still had the trader one on and probably another. That could be it. I'll let you guys know how it works out after I finishing patching and stuff. Go go 56k!
