Should I Worry?!

Hey all I been reading on the forums here since I'm new to MacroQuest and you guys said you should no talk about MQ in game. I mean I talk about it in game all the time BUT this is only through /tell to my real life friends and in group tells to my real life friends since we all use MQ. Also could I get banned from my account because I'm running MQ because I heard they look at what you open with recent files / url's / and stuff. I only run the cast.mac and checkspawns.mac macros. Thanks for any information

P.S. Wish I could find a macro that max's out my specialize skills

Read the EULA you agree to every time you log into EQ. It explicitly states that any 3rd party software that alters gameplay is a violation of the terms of service and you can get banned for that, regardless of what you use MQ for.

Just remember that any time you communicate through EQ in game or through EQIM, etc... it goes through their servers and your privacy is in their hands. That being said, they could easily have some sort of filter on the server that logs everything said about "macroquest" or other select words, and have some minimum-wage paid employee scan through them and mark anything suspicious...

Just make your friends join the same irc channel with the irc plugin and talk there.

It IS possible for Sony to log every single minute detail including all tells, chat, every save of your character since it was born, etc. This is a highly speculative area.

I try to use alternate forms of communication. If you MUST talk about MQ in game with ppl you know IRL, you should use code words. Base your code words on a theme. Pick something random and build on that. I just made this up off the top of my head (I don't wanna give away my code words

)

For example (call MQ your toilet):
You: "My toilet is working well, and everything is flowing perfectly" (say this if your macro is doing great)
Friend: "That's great! Mine is clogged atm" (macro is fucking up)
You: "Uh oh. I think someone smells my toilet" (someone might be on to the fact that you macro)
Friend: "Shit! My toilet wasn't expecting that!" (his macro didn't handle an exception correctly leading to a major fuckup)

etc. etc.

If you use MQ, expect to get banned. If the thought of getting banned seriously bothers you, MQ is not for you. Getting banned isn't cool but according to Sony, violating the EULA isn't cool either.

The IRC idea is a good one, just dont be stupid and you'll be fine..

I've been using MQ for a LONG time. Stupidest thing I've ever done is go to run a "PowerArrows.mac" when I was really tired in shadowhaven. Instead of typing /mac Powerarrows I typed /ooc Powerarrows. I did this twice before I realized what I did. my dumbass covered by saying in ooc "yeah, Powerarrows, thats what I really need." thats it.

The most scared I've ever been is when I fell victim to the dreaded, oldschool, loose every item on your character when zoning and using MQ bug. Actually petitioning for somthing that I knew was MQ related was scary, but gms responded and I had all my stuff back in under a week.

I guess what I'm trying to say is shit happens. Personally I HATE playing EQ without MQ. If I didnt have MQ I wouldnt play anymore. If you feel this same way, keep using mq. If your EQ is more important to the enhancements that MQ gives, then dont use MQ. Its your choice, and your account. Just dont be stupid.

Yep -- missing the / in front of a command and just saying the command instead of performing it is always exciting...saying "who npc range 50 65" is hard to blow off :)

pulling a ldon before i figured out the map feature i did a ./target npc whatever the nameds name was in group say heh.. i was like oopsie and some guy was like its cool i run it too in a tell =) still made me nervous cause the other 4 people were like, huh? lol

Amazingly, i have yet to do anything extremely stupid and get caught... I dont generally screw up with mq as far as targeting mobs, or /who npc radius blah blah stuff, because i do most my mob checking with showeq, i just use mq for the simple tradeskilling macros (not even fully automated) and a melee macro when im real bored...

Thats one of the things I hate about default chat channels. Since this thread seems to be headed in the perfect direction for a rant......

I really hate how the default chat channel is Guild (with default settings). I don't always play EQ / the same character on the same computer. Default goes to Guild. I haven't had any MacroQuest MT's to my guild, but that scares the crap out of me.

The best channel to be in is Say. Most people don't have say going to a seperate window. Plus, whatever you say in "say", only limited people see. Granted many will see it in the bazaar, but you can get in big trouble if your default chan is OOC.

Anything default channels besides say (even group) are asking for trouble. Not just with MacroQuest but with any communication in general. Whether your talking shit about a guildie, accidentally saying "target npc", etc the damage will likely be minimized if you simply /say it.

After all, talking to guild takes a "/gu", talking to group takes a "/g", and talking to a chat channel takes /1. Finding a new guild because you got kicked out

after typing "/macro genbot" three times

takes a whole LOT more keystrokes than that.

Also, for the VERY paranoid people: If you use hot buttons for all of your macros, you will NEVER have mistells. Even if you mistype stuff, hot buttons will not chat without a chat channel specified (98% sure).

On the four different computers I have logged on to, with no customizations (that I can tell), the default is guild. I remember a long time ago it being say, but whenever I log a character on, whether being freshly created or simply never logged on that computer, the default is guild.

I clearly remember seeing many times "You are not a member of any guild" when logged onto my lower level characters (who aren't guilded).

Then again, my computer (any my friend's computers) all stem from the same installation of EQ (copied over the network time and time again instead of installed from CD). If everyone else's default truly is still /say, then perhaps one of my global ini files was changed through some bizzare circumstances?
