It's happened

Post by jan65 » Fri Aug 16, 2002 1:47 am

Someone I know was using a macro to exp. They fell asleep, and somehow gms figured it out. He is currently suspended, and if his story is true, VI is offering substantial inducements to get him to roll over on who he knows is using the program, and how it works, give them scripts, etc. Inducements include server transfers and geared acccounts on other servers.

Be careful.

Fell asleep?! Agh! What's the matter with him? New note: Don't macro when tired, go to bed! :o

What macro was he running? Wonder why they would want scripts... As for how it works? I'm sure someone over there knows the address of the boards... Hmmmmmm

P.S. Thanks for the heads up!

Jan, one question, are you a VI employee?

1. Why would verant want him to tell them how it works, they could easily find out on their own.
2. Why would they want scripts? So they can macro themselves? Since most hunting scripts are self made it wouldn't make much sense for them to want scripts.

If u use unattended macros, you face a permanent ban - there have been severe warnings released only this week from verant. it really isnt going to take much effort to identify people who use macros.

Dont take the risk if you are not prepared to experience being perma banned.

Salute...

What a story,eh?

Honestly i dont really believe it :) If Verant would like to know ANYTHING about MQ, they would look at it themselves. For God sake, they arent FBI :)

I am not a VI employee

Post by jan65 » Fri Aug 16, 2002 9:28 am

Just amazing. I write a well-intentioned ( if a little low on particulars) warning, trying to save something I like. Next I am accused of lying, or being a VI shill by morons who don't even know me. I left out more details for obvious reasons: I don't want to provide the rope for *me* to get hung.

As for the macro: I wrote portions of this macro, it contains portions of code posted here, other friends wrote other portions. I won't give more information about its capabilities or post it, because that would be the beginning of the end (if this is not already). Forgive me for not posting it. But I believe that as soon as I do, there will be tons of AFK exping silly people ruining it for everyone. The decision not to post was made by the three of us who wrote it.

Should you wish to duplicate our efforts, knock yourself out. I will say that the code posted here in the depot provided substantial building material. You could get most of the way there with creative combining.

I enjoy using this program. I wish to continue to do so. I just want to encourage people to be smart about its use. My friend will not roll over ( I don't think). The next person who gets caught may not be so upstanding.

Hmmm, and I should care becuase??? You're friend doesn't know me, you don't know me, and no one else on this board knows me, you, or your friend. Who cares if he or anyone else "rolls over" none of us have anything to worry about. No one uses their account or character name here. If they do they diserve whatever they get.

I'm not trying to come down on you or anything, I just don't see why we should care. The only thing to worry about Verant doing things that directly impact the functionality of MacroQuest, and they don't need to know "who" is using MacroQuest for that.

You missed the point

Post by jan65 » Fri Aug 16, 2002 11:56 am

The point was don't macro AFK, don't draw attention to yourself.

It was intended as cautionary. If you don't go afk when you macro, and no one you know who uses the program does, then my little tale does not apply to you.

Also, the afk thing is at Verant's whim. If they decide to ban you because you use macroquest, they can. And there is not a blessed thing you can do. They can change the rules at any time, and can terminate your account just because it's Tuesday (read your EULA).

Quote me, flame me, dice up what I've said semantically, and otherwise behave as a flame happy message board moron, I don't care. But for god's sake be smart about the use of this program. And if you know others who do, try to make them do the same.

well here's the thing...

Verant already knows about the program...knows about the website, knows that ppl use it.

It's been said over and over how to use this program and what not to do. Going AFK/asleep while running an exp/farming macro has got to be at the very top of the freaking list of things not to do.

So, basically, they're trying to get your friend to rollover on...not anyone here at the site cause they already have a list of all our false names and such...but to rollover on YOU and the rest of your cadre that worked on your scripts.

So...trying to reinforce the precautions that have been stated over and over and over again isn't bad thing. But ppl that use macros while afk/asleep aren't gonna change their habits cause your friend fooked up.

I mean seriously..come'on...sleeping during an exp macro?? Hell, 1 less idiot running the program on his main acct IMO. And I half don't believe the whole "Rollover Deal" part. But that's just me. Some actual advice would be to tell you to watch yourselves, for you and your friends that aren't banned yet.

But yeah...thanks for the story.

Magnus, you decaying skeleton... You just call me an idiot :)... I wouldnt say its stupid or call ppl idiots just because they run macros unattended. There are lots of ppl that gets killed in the traffic (consider it as life-banning) - they arent idiots - they are just unlucky... They took a chance, but missed...

Thats life...

Not idiots, just... Daredevils...

Jan: Your story as it is is very hard to believe, I seriously doubt Verant would offer him anything other than a permanent ban from the game (as they have done to all others who have gotten caught). Add to that that you had only one post, and imho it sounded more like an attempt to scare people away from using MQ than to warn them not to macro while AFK. Since you say that is not the reason for your post I am sorry for jumping to conclusions.

Ok Yoc I'll accept that :P

It's a use at your own risk type of thing. I use Macros on my main but I don't afk. And I don't use these exp/cash scripts on my main. That's...shall we say...a bit too bold for me? Heh, how's that?
