This may seem silly but

Pre the patch that "Broke" Mq awhile back, since which all these new "offsets" etc had to be written up, i havent used MQ.

When i did use MQ, all i did was install a exe that was sent to me, and just ran macroquest, the little shield icon. Loaded up macroes in game etc..

But now, when I look at the forums etc, i see all this stuff about these other programs needed to load, and the cvs server, visual basic (censor: i'm an idiot; please ignore me), dos, etc - could someone explain to me? I was running macroes fine before, what does doing all this do, is it neccesary? Can i no longer simply install the exe? Im a fkin nub :\

You should only need the VC++ if you compile the code yourself. There is no VB code.

Since you are running a precompiled version all you should need is the Release directory with the updated offset file.

There is no longer a precompiled MacroQuest, so no, you can't just install and run.

You now have to download the source code and compile it yourself, using either Visual C++ 6.0 or Visual C++ .NET. Compiling it creates the necessary .exe and .dll files. There are several other files in the Release subdirectory of the source code that are also required: eqgame.ini, which has the memory offsets; macroquest.ini, which provides basic settings for MacroQuest, and which is customized to reflect the end user's desired behavior; and locations.txt, which provides a road map for mouse movement and clicking under the new UI.

CVS stands for Concurrent Version System, and that is where the source code is stored online. There are two "flavors", the developer version where all the changes are input, and the public version. Only devs have access to the developer CVS. The public CVS typically lags behind the dev CVS by about 24 hours, sometimes a little more. DKAA also posts a zip file of the latest source code, and depending on his time and timing it will usually be up to date with the dev CVS, or off by a few hours. The zip file is, however, usually more up to date than the public CVS.

He may be getting the precompiled from someone who compiles it then distribute it him.

I have multiple machines and I compile it on one then copy it to the other.

I do the same, but I got the impression that he was asking what happened to the binaries.

No not at all. It's just not going to be point and click...

Read the boards and use the search link to find out more info.

There is plenty of information on how to do it on the boards.

Do you have a copy of VC++ 6 or VS? If not you can buy a copy for around $100.00 then use the step by step instruction in the help area.

Erm... Don't just run anything someone gives you, especially some of these weirdos. Might turn your PC into a toaster.

You'd also not use it just once. The devs have been going nuts lately adding new features, you'll prolly use it once a week.

At one time you could buy a precompiled version of MQ for the price of an essay. Don't know if that offer is still open. I also offered to send folks one for a LARGE amount of plat ingame at one time  But before you PM me on that one, I seriously mean a LARGE amount, and you have to get it to my server...which almost no one here is on btw.

If I'm gonna piss off the other devs, you have to make it worth my while.

LOL ... I'd do it for a large amount of plat ... but you'd have to figure out who I am in game and on which server first.

Personally, there are only 3 people I give precompiled versions to. My girlfriend and two of my RL friends (though one hasn't been on due to a new child ... and the other compiles his own most of the time)

Oh, I've left enough clues strung here and there for someone to guess which server :) As to name... come up with the plat first, and I'll tell you who to deliver it through :)
