where to get a machine...

All forums need a place for all the posts for people in the community to rant about things not relating to what the forum is about. This is that forum.

where to get a machine...

Post by dont_know_at_all » Mon Jun 30, 2003 8:29 pm

The wife is going to let me get a new machine, er, I told my wife that we're getting a new machine. Whee!

Are there any really good deals out there?

I'd like to get a top-of-the-line machine, but screw that. They fall off in value so fast that it feels like you got raped. I want something below the bleeding edge that hits that sweet spot where value crosses features.

Any ideas?

If you're still looking, it just so happens that my current roomate owns his own computer company!

E-Mail him at Josh@waukeshapc.com and let him know exactly what you want, or tell him what you plan on using it for, and he will hook you up with good deals... just mention that Icon sent you.

Also, ignore the prices and stuff on the website, the site is extremely outdated, and those prices are waaaaaay off. Just shoot him an E-Mail.

He's actually very good at being able to find the greatest prices vs features sweet spot you're looking for.

If you're skilled in building them yourself you could always check out http://www.pricewatch.com and get decent components for pretty cheap.

Well then I apologize, looking at the E-Mail myself, it looks as though someone else read this post, mentioned me, and E-Mailed Josh asking for a quote.

Well aside from that, Josh read your original post, and went through and priced ahead a great computer that would probably be very close to what you're looking for. You should E-Mail him and see if the system is what you had in mind. I think you'd like what he priced out, he's pretty good at coming up with a system that has features and power people are looking for at much lower prices then people would expect, without going with generic crap that breaks after two days.

Anyway, ignore his website, it's waaaay outdated and definately overpriced with today's rates, it hasn't been updated in years, seriously.

Yeah, just hit him up at Josh@waukeshapc.com and ask him for a quote, tell him what kind of stuff you want, and let him work.

Don't forget to mention me though.

I like Mwave.com ( http://www.mwave.com/mwave/index.hmx? )
I put together some nice stuff there, its fully customizable, great selection, and a good RMA policy too.

(one problem, the postal people could not deliver an item for my friend, so it was returned, they assumed it was an RMA and sent a new one out, again...same problem, just be sure to e-mail them, good CS)

I agree with the build it yourself idea. I've always saved tons and been able to have a state-of-the-art computer. I usually use pricewatch.com like was mentioned.

Although, another alternative is http://www.ebay.com. I havn't used it but a friend told me about a month ago he got a very nice computer setup for cheap. So I dunno, might want to check it out. http://listings.ebay.com/aw/plistings/l ... ml?from=R4

I just built a machine with parts from Mwave.com. Good company.
