Incorrect client version

Downloaded the latest versions today, complied it, logged on fine the first time, the second time I tried to run it, I got the "Incorrect client version" message. Any thoughts?

you trying to run live or emu?
Live released a non-mandatory patch the other day. The latest MQ2 build is setup for that version. If you still have the older client, then you need the older MQ2 source, or you need to patch EQ.
If you are trying to use MQ2 on emu, then you need to get the older MQ2 source that corresponds to your client version.

How does one go about finding the client version they are using for the emu servers?

You need to find the build date for the eqgame you're using. Then get the correct MQ2 download.

There used to be a EQVersion.exe floating around, which works fine - I don't know if it's out in the 'public' any longer (i.e., google!). Never saw any source for it.

Here is one that'll do what you need, it's pretty simple, but gets the job done. Gives you the date/time of eqgame.exe (or selected one). 1st link is a bin (don't bother if you want to see it yourself and build it yourself) and 2nd link is the VS2013 solution/project/source.
