File command request

Post by Jay » Mon May 19, 2003 8:15 pm

Can we add file commands that would work like:

/file text.txt create
/file text.txt append
/file close

/file out "Blah Blah Blah"
/file in $v1

$file(open)
$file(eof)

This would allow me to have my macro write story files so you can look up data by opening the story window. There are SO MANY great uses for this command that I think we need to seriously consider it.

If there is allready a command that will function as such, please let me know, I did not see one in the docs.

This would be fairly simple to implement, I can try to do it in my spare time next week. (Just started a new job managing a casual dining restaurant, so my time is horribly limited now. :( )

As i recall this was once rejected for security concerns.

hmmm, that is a concern... This is all open source so if people care then can look and see what is going on. That is my view at least.

I once requested a modification to the Notes window, turning it into a text editor for writing macros on the fly. That was the one rejected for security reasons. Now that EQ has a native windowed mode (albeit a poor one) there really isn't any reason for it anymore.
