PERL? Anyone using it, and for what?

Post by Mckorr » Fri Mar 21, 2003 5:37 pm

Just wondering if anyone is actually using the PERL functions in MQ, and if so what for?

Used it to play a sound when something happened...
and to start Keysniffer for ShowEQ...

If Soundthing could be implemented in normal code, or starting an external exe by command, PEARL would be useless for me.

Ah, ShowEQ. Yeah, considering parts of MQ were "borrowed" from there it wouldn't surprise me if that wasn't what Plaz wanted it in there for.

Plaz isn't the one that put it in there, Plaz just put it in when someone else (can't remember who atm) made it work. Why it was ever put in, I don't know... *shrug*

The Perl addition was coded by AMadMonk and he added it to allow for a more robust scripting language to develop macros in.

I personally have never used it because I've found Plaz's self-developed scripting language to be more or less adequate for the macros I've created.

Now that’s an idea... is it possible to export the spawnlist using Perl?

I am looking at the source for Perl now... has any documentation been prepared for this?

Using this Perl implementation might make it easy to populate a modified ShowEQ spawn table. The idea is to recode ShowEQ to populate the spawn/zone table from a netshared file (or UDP if we get fancy) which was created from data collected from the MQ client.

Since the guys over at seq.sourceforge.net or not at all interested in fixing ShowEQ, this might be an interesting idea for a fork.

Check out the forum..seq.sourceforge.net, but don’t ask about SEQ cause it will get you flamed by all the assholes that lurk there.

As far as I know there's not MQ to PERL or vice versa documentation. I ripped PERL out with a lot of help from Valerian weeks ago. I mean, why would I want MQ to generate web pages on the fly? :P
