For what its worth, /petition does not send 10 lines (or any) to the server, the only way to do that is through /report. As proof, the instructions on how to properly complain about someone harassing you (through tells, text, not training/KSing) is to first scroll to the offending text, then use /report, and then use /petition to tell them about the report. If petition sent text, the middle step would be unnecessary.

Alot of times to prove you are AFK they will kill the NPC you are working with, or summon you somewhere else, if you attempt to continue doing whatever, as if nothing happened, you are obviously AFK macroing, if not, you are probably just plain AFK or sleeping.

They use tells also, but not exclusively, they wont ever ban you for not answering a tell, lots of spam could hide one easily, as well as fullscreen modes and other things, they always have other methods for detecting macroers.

Now to detect someone sleeping at the computer, they use tells. They also ask your group or guild or someone nearby if they've seen you move or talk or do anything recently. They sit around you and stuff for like a total of 15-20 minutes to see if you move. If you're AFK flag is on they assume you are awake and AFK, if not, and if you never move, they just boot you to server select, after sending you two tells stating that you are being kicked because they suspect you are sleeping. They tell you that for your logs if you are logging.

But for AFKing, they don't care if you are afk for a few hours, they want to detect AFK macro's, not just plain AFK. And a macro usually DOES something, like move around in circles or use a merchant or combiner, and if someone else can tell you are macroing and petitions, then your macro is obviously doing something the GM/guide can interrupt and detect without needing tells.
