Everquest2 announced its release date of the 8th. Any of the dev's interested in doing something for it? If I were as uber as them I'd try my hand (when I get it) but alas, I'm not in their league.

With all the appeal for EQ2 accounts a while ago, i assume something is in the works.

I am not currently working on hacking it, if you want the truth ...primarily because I am enjoying playing the game without any hacks. However, I might JOIN with Lax or someone with similar talents if they were interested in having me help as a dev.
I will be playing the game probably close to full time however.
All that being said, it's VERY doubtful there will be a ANYTHING written for EQ2 or WoW that will be opensource ...at least, nothing of the quality that was MQ. It's possible, of course, but I have my doubts since I think the devs of all the EQLive related hacking programs learned their lesson and wish to have more control over what is released and more compensation for their work.
I'm sure there will be something eventually, but you will probably be buying it precompiled. That's just my prediction, I am not basing it on anything that I know of personally in the works.

Even if this were not the case, I think you should really 'Play' a game before you go into hacking it or whatever your heart desires. (Modding, scritping, in case of other games)

Interesting... I thought the main reason SOE never sued the asses off the MQ devs was precisely because it was open source?

Not really, legally the game companies don't really have a leg to stand on when it comes to dealing with "hacking" a game. They would have to show lost revenue for one which isn't easy in the best of circumstances, and is particularly difficult when dealing with a bunch of people like us who would probably not be playing the game if it weren't for those hacks.

My sentiments exactly. I wouldn't even be maintaining my two accounts right now if it weren't for MQ. Vanilla EQ hides so much trivial shit from you that MQ makes available. Christ, I play a class with track and I'd still rather use MQ to find spawns for me since track gets fucked up more often than not.
That, coupled with the constant need for button mashing when playing a melee were really putting my interest in EQ in the gutter. I was pretty much only logging in for Time farm night with the guild before I got MQified.

But didn't EQ Macros become generic directX Xylobot only after Verant threatened to sue the dev Ben Ziegler? Why did Verant leave MQ alone? I always thought it was because MQ was open source.

Whatever happens, I hope that MQ2 for the original EQ stays active and doens't fall apart. There are tons of EQ players that aren't going to goto EQ2, including me.

Well you know of the 8+ boxers as I do. Do you think they get their accounts for free?

Personally, I had 7 accounts because I could 6 box them with a macro I wrote that worked through a personal chat channel, I could control my own group by one character using hotkeys that said something in the chat channel and the bots did it. If it weren't for MQ, I would of quit years ago and not had but maybe one of these accounts, at most two, active. If anything SoE should be paying these guys to keep MQ alive.
But personally, I would love to see some type of MQ for EQ2. Even if I had to pay. Mainly for tradeskills, they are annoying in EQ2. I enjoy the game a lot without a type of MQ2 out there, but I would do a lot more tradeskills with it. :)

There ARE some keyboard/mouse automation programs out there, I"ll not mention them here, but that's how i "macro'd" tradeskills in daoc.

I used xylobot before MQ2, specifically for tradeskills, fishing, foraging and such...and it is just so tedious in comparison.
I wouldn't want to go back to that either =/

Xylobot uses some Pascel type scripting language that sucks. Sure, you can automate some things with Xylobot, but there is no feedback from the game.

I sincerely hope MQ continues with EQ1 when EQ2 is released. I won't be playing EQ2, as I have several EQ1 accounts and if it wasn't for MQ I would not be playing at all. I donate when I can, and I am trying to donate to the community now as well. I would really be saddened if this stopped working because EQ2 came around.
