im new to this but playing around with others made macro's and fitting them to my characters, but where can i go to learn more about the commands used and what they actually mean, is there a certain langague these are writtin in or what? any books i could read? thanks in advance

There is a great place to learn about all those things ... and it was installed when you unzipped the MQ2 source ... it's called TFM ... So you should go read it.

Macros are written in MacroQuest2 Macro Language. (Duh...)

Any books? Thats a joke, right?

Where can you go to learn more about the commands? Don't tell me you didn't read the manual... because if you didn't, we are gonna have to flame your ass right here and now....

I don't recall him saying the letters could only be used once. In fact the word "match" implies multiple uses of 1 letter.

I sigh when i see these posts, im still a newb, but first thing i did when i started using MQ2, opened the manual and read through it! all of it! then had to go back to reread the compile instructions

i still read it, If im working on a macro i leave it open, I've alt tabbed outta game to open and read it. f you not gonna read the manual, you are just asking for it to fuck up sometime soon, or you to not know shit what you doin

And first clue there owuldnt be any "books" on the MQ2 commands. the big red letters.... IN THE MANUAL..... saying its against sony's EULA. Hmmm, thats like a book "Murder: For dummies"

Note to self: write book "MacroQuest2 For Dummies" and market the hell out of it.

I haven't written any code since GW Basic came free on a 5.25 floppy with your computer that didn't come with a hard drive....

so I'm studying everybody else's macros to figure out what makes what valid syntax... the "manual" is a real cute joke.

The readme.chm that comes with the distribution is what you are looking for.

For as much time as I put into making it, I can assure you it is not a joke.

It's an EXCELLENT desk reference.

It's not an instruction manual.


The difference being, if you halfway know what you're doing, it's got all the information you need. For a noob who's never played with programing code it's vague in the how-to department. The basics aren't there because it's written by someone who knows what he's doing for people who have half a clue already. The inside joke is... those who can't figure it out from there probly don't need to be using it anyway.

Your purpose for writing it obviously did not include teaching basic programming. The problem lies in the fact that MQ2 inherently attracts people who know nothing about programming & just want to make their game playing better. And they expected it to be nerfed to be as easy as the game. Which is why this board gets a lot of posts that Crazy & others can unleash their keyboard on. (I have my aluminum foil close at hand, just in case )


For instance ${something}.... why the ${}? Me.whatever what's the purpose/reason for the . ? and what's the difference between the word in front of the dot and the word after... that kind of stuff.... and the /line here.... indent /next line {bracket here.... where does the next bracket go}... people who've never used a programing language don't pick up on that just immediately.

BUT... if they do as repeatedly told in your message board - SEARCH and look at other macros they'll eventually figure out the whys... IF not, they probly should save themselves the stress & go back to PacMan.

Or donate and not worry about people with no time on their hands for helping to flame since they can't in the VIP.

Short answer, just do it and don't question why, if you want to go in deeper there's a million tutorials on basic programming that include block statements and escape sequences. If you interested in learning the basics that's a good place to start. People here sometimes just flame at the smallest question without trying to read whats behind it so don't give that too much thought
