Spontaneous Reboot

Not really MQ2 problem, but since you are a smart bunch, I thought you might know....

One of my computers likes to spontaneously reboot while playing EQ. I don't even have to be zoning for this to happen. What is the likely cause? Memory? Hard drive? on-board video? The motherboard is nforce2 with onboard geforce graphics. Is there a way for me to figure out what the likely cause is? Thanks in advance.

1 - Bad memory
2- Overheating Cpu

Here are some Q's

How many fans do you have in your case?

When is the last time you cleaned those fans including the cpu fan?

How many sticks of ram do you have?

Now some fixes and tips (with out knowing the answers to the Q's above)

1) Clean out your case with a vaccume cleaner OR blast the inside of your case with a can of air (commonly used to clean keyboards etc). Make sure the computer is off and you have a brush type tool for your vaccume (you know the hose attachments for drapes etc) lightly brush fans and internals making sure your not rough or knock anything loose.

2) Download http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=311
Motherboard Monitor 5.3.7.0 it will monitor your mb stats etc also show you your temp as long as the mb is newer. Check your temp and post how high it is.

TIP: If you look behind your computer and check your power source fan (the fan on the back of your computer right near the on and off switch thats located on the back of your computer) and its covered in black goo or a ton of dust get a can of air and blast your fans with it while the computer is off.

I had same problem it was definately my ram..bought new, good ram, and im running great now. Also check cpu heat like others said though.

Raise your page file. right click on my computer, properties, Advanced Tab, Perfomance Settings, Advanced Tab, at the bottom there is a Change button. Click the Custom Setup Circle, change the Inital Size (MB) to around 2000, and the maximum size to around 3500. save and reboot =D.
I am assuming you have windowsXP because I had that same problem and all I had to do was raise my page file.

Unless you have a shop vacuum, do not stick the hose end of a vacuum anywhere NEAR your computer. The static electricity that can be generaged is tremendous, and you'll likely end up with a dead motherboard/processor/memory

There is still a known problem with blue screens and nvidia cards. I had the problem for a long time, but haven't had it since I did a couple of things.

1) Added hardwaretnl=false line to my eqclient.ini
2) Set my AGP aperture to 128MB in my bios settings

Typically for me rebooting is the result of a power supply issue.

I've had several computers do this to me. The easiest way to test it out is to just unplug your CD Rom or CD Burner drive for a couple days and see if it gets any better. Alot of times just unplugging one device will make the rebooting problems go away.

Then go buy a new power supply and install it.

As others have said, memory or over-heating.

Imho, It's almost certainly the memory if it reboots whether you've been playing long or short sessions. I've had memory go bad and usually when playing games it would reboot.
