New GM conceal codes?

I was sitting in Shadowhaven today working on smithing with my two computers when a GM Admin walked up and asked the two characters how they where. When he walked up I did not think much off it until I did a /who targetname on him and it showed GM-Admin. Now I have gm codes in my macros and they did not go off. Heart skipped a beat as I was ending the macro on the other computer so that I could respond to him :)

Not sure if when they took GM service down last night that they change something in their codes to stop us from seeing them until it is to late. I had also been doing a /who all GM radomly before and after this and nothing came up even when he was still in the zone.

What do you guys think?

Using some methods are better then nothing I would say, but ultimately it is futile to try and conceal what you are doing from a GM or know exactly when a GM is around. The reason you didn't see him is because they have the ability to hide from the /who list. No clientside program can detect them if they are hidden, not MacroQuest, not ShowEQ, not SINS, nothing. Again, putting code in your macros to turn them off when you do detect a GM is certainly a good idea, but if you're looking for some way to know when a GM is in the zone for sure, there is none.

By using MacroQuest, regardless of the precousions you take, you are taking a risk. The only totally safe thing is to not use MacroQuest at all. Generally speaking there is a fairly low chance of you getting caught (assuming you are reasonably careful). But I personally wouldn't risk losing an account with any very high level characters, or characters that you've spent a lot of time on.

Your code is probably wrong, like the infamous macro that was posted and is being well abused.

Try:

Code: Select all

    /if "$gm"=="TRUE" /call GM
and

Code: Select all

Sub GM

    /endmacro

/return

Lady red, what were you doing smithing with two chars in SH that would make you nervous if a GM came?

Was just making metal bits. But was nervous to have a GM come up and start talking to me. Since not sure if the other computer was going to start clicking on him or the macro not shutting down properly.

hmm

I have to say I am a mq newb myself but I read all the posts on these boards and I know enough to never macro AFK or when anyone else is at the same merchant. Last night I tried it for the first time getting fletching up and about 1 minute after I start I do a /who and I see a few people but indented I see the name "an inspector"

I immediately sit and camp....but I logged back on at 4am EST and again I do a /who when I log on nobody but me is in zone then 2 minutes after I start macroing I see an inspector in zone. What's going on? Can I even use this program? :\

an inspector wasn't suppossed to show up on /who, but I guess they messed up. They have GM/Guides hovering over a lot of merchants with these inspector guys.

Hmm if this is true then i guess these inspector guys are there to monitor merchant usage. Its probably easier for them to have an eqlclient type tool to monitor it than mine the logs on the world servers. Maybe we will finally see and end to this mad rush at "Smurf Hut Building" and we can go back to quietly doing our thing.

I was running a couple of my own customizations and noticed the exact same phenon.

In addition to the gm checks in the code, just to satisfy my own senses I do a /who gm all and just give a looksee around. I was doing my thing and noticed a senior guide one zone away. I stopped what I was doing and walked around a bit. I zoned to the adjacent zone and then did a "/" an lo and behold there was the gm admin at the bottom of the who list.

Thanks for the info catt, I think I need to rescan my code. Very interesting stuff but I don't unattend so I'm not worried too much but definately something to keep an eye on.

You get in as much trouble if you are attending as if you aren't.

A friend of mine was attending, doing [something-censored], and got his plat taken away and got a warning, and he was at the comp.

ROFL an inspector haha

Where you perhaps in Qeynos?

the Qeynos necklace quests feature 'inspectors', one of which becomes your pet during part of the quest in south qeynos where he follows you round to certain NPC's as part of the quest..

The reason he was in who indented was because someone was mid quest, then later on he was back as a normal NPC..

haha, sorry had to laugh =)
