plugin not responding

Post by Sarotu » Fri Aug 13, 2004 6:01 pm

ok i looked and didnt see a forum for "plugin help" so i guess it goes here? At any rate...

Aug12 a compiled Mq2 for the second time ( much faster then the first =D ). I decided to add some plugins to expand Mq2 abilities. I chose mq2timer and spawn alert as they both looked really good. After I got mkplugin to work the new Mq2 built fine with 0 errors and no skips. I then launch mq2 and load the plugins. They load, yay. But when I send them a command /mqtimer or /spawnalert add, I get a message for mq2 saying that its not a command. Everything loaded with no errors, what am I doing wrong?

I had similar problems. Never sorted them out. This forum is for non-plugin related help. Post in the threads for the specific plugin if you're having problems. Also make sure to RTFM, and include as much info as possible about the steps you took to add the project, compile, load the plugin, etc...

I did RTFM it said "you can load a plugin by /plugin <name> and you can unload by /plugin <name> unload".... joy

the process i used was by the wardens post and the post on plugins. I dont think thats what went wrong as i got no errors /shrug

hehe.. you missed the first part of my post.

The proper place to ask questions about a plugin is in that plugin's thread. The writer of the plugin is more likely to see your post there, and you will have a better chance of getting help.

Information in addition to "it didn't work" is also useful. This is why I said include details about how you wrote the plugin, what you did to load it, why you think it's not working, etc... Just saying that MQ tells you it's an invalid command gives absolutely no information about what may be happening... and will not get you any help.

Unless other people are also having trouble, it's most likely a PEBKAC error. There's no reason to believe that your version of MQ is more special than the rest of ours (unless you went tooling around in the code, in which case, you're on your own)

For quick answers, you may also want to try searching through the specific plugin thread.. see if other people had similar problems.

Good Luck.

I hate PEBKAC tech problems, they are the worst to get fixed.

sorry if i was rude in my second post... that wasnt my objective. I will repost in the plugin area in a bit. I am "new" to this but i am not a fool from rpg expert or whatever. What information would be helpful... i am really stumped. i have read both threads and saw no problems. since neither of the plugins work somthing bigger must be wrong. i have not edited the code of MQ2 or the plugins.

PEBKAC's are best fixed by belittling and shameing the idiot making them. they will check twice before asking next time.

I agree. Download fresh copies of everything... re-include the plugin packages (are you sure you did this.. you didn't mention it) and rebuild from scratch.

It'll be a bit till MQ works again anyway.

GL when it happens.
