Need help with MQ2ChatWnd and more.

Post by aChallenged1 » Tue Jun 29, 2004 4:47 pm

It seems as if my MQ2ChatWnd is not loading at all.
I am trying to get SirCodeAlot's UI set up running on my system, properly. So far I am failing horribly, I feel.
(side note, tried loading other characters and still the MQ2ChatWnd is not loading, that I can tell.)

I am trying it on one character, for now, to see if I can get it running.

I took his UI_charname_servername.ini and renamed it and placed it into the EQ main directory, where it belongs. I unzipped the zip file into the Uifilesl directory like you do with all UI setups. Logged on game and loaded the proper UI, looks great, just like the picture (using the 1600x1200 res version), with two big issues, everything that is supposed to have a label shows up "Unknownlable9999" (with the 3rd spell gem showing different as "UnknownUi" and the MQ2ChatWnd is not opening.

Programmer had me test to be sure MQ2 is running properly by having me target something, turn away and type /face, which I did and it worked; so we know that MQ2 is indeed running.

As for the MQ2ChatWnd.ini I copied it over from the UI subdirectory he has it in and placed it first (as noted in directions given for this specific UI) into the main MQ2 directory. This did not work. I next placed it into the MQ2ChatWnd directory, still did not work. I just found a thread where it says MQ2ChatWnd.ini belongs in the subdirectory of MC2 called Release, so I put it there. It still does not work. Yes, I edited the ini to put the name and server as described.

Is there a basic MQ2ChatWnd.ini someone can post so I can copy and paste it and try that? I haven't tried to search for that yet, but will as soon as I post this.

All help is appriciated, and if you show me that what I missed or did wrong was something a 90year old blind man could have figured out, I'll take the whipping that I deserve.

Found the problem.

If you ever think MQ2 is working, but a lot of features aren't, kill the entire directory, download the most recient version of the MQ2 from this site and go through the set up steps again from the start. Make sure that the 2nd to last step is not missed at all. If you miss ANY of the check marks something isn't going to work.

That was my problem, somehow I missed one or more items, but I didn't get an error code so thought I was good to go.

While targeting anything and turning away from it and running the /face command will prove MQ2 is loaded and running, it does not prove you haven't "screwed the pooch" on the compile.

I learned something new today. I'm one step closer to being a dunce than an idiot.

New Question, still about MQ2ChatWnd...

Is it possible to make the MQ2ChatWnd the Focus chat window?

I'm sure it must be, otherwise people are having to click in the text entry box of the window each time they want to use it.

Ok, so if I understand correctly, I can type the commands for MQ2 in ANY chat window and they will not be seen by EQ or be logged. Is that correct?

The descriptions I found did not state it clearly enough if that is the case. But then again, I've been known for rewriting things to make them easier to understand, if a little wordier.

Correct.

MQ2 looks at everything before it is sent to the server. If it is something it recognizes, it parses the statement without the sever ever knowing - regardless of what window you typed it into.

I'm not a MQ2 dev, but I'm pretty sure this is how it works.

Just an example - I run 3 windows:
One is the MQ2 window, one for all chat channels (say, group, tell, etc.), and last for everything else. My "chat" window is locked to take everything I type.
