Looking for some help (SOES UI - MQ2ed by SirCodeAlot)

Post by aChallenged1 » Tue Jun 29, 2004 2:13 pm

I've read through it all and still cannot get it to work properly.

MQ2 compiled properly, it does work.

Problem I am having is that when I load the SOES UI - MQ2ed, as provided by SirCodeAlot, I get a lot of "unknown" lables all over the place. Also, it appears that the MQ2ChatWnd is not opening properly.

I downloaded the 1600x1200 version and made a copy (I like to keep originals unchanged) of the ui_charname_server.ini and renamed it properly (eg. ui_dumbnoob_luclin.ini) and placed it into my EQ main directory replacing my old ui file for that character, after having backed it up. Then I made a copy of the MQ2ChatWnd.ini and put it, per instructions, into my MQ2 directory, with the line [YourServer.YourName] changed as indicated to [luclin.dumbnoob].

Started MQ2, started EQ, logged onto character and the UI itself is working, everything is in place. Yet the tags and lables, etc. such as the location, pet info, spell cast #, everything really, is listed as "unknown."

Ok, so back to try something different, I made a copy of MQ2ChatWnd.ini and put it in my MQ2ChatWnd folder fired up EQ again and still nothing.

Now before anyone asks why I think that the MQ2ChatWnd isn't loading properly I'll tell you. 1, commands go to game. 2, looked closely at my screen then at his screenshot, the lower right section on screenshot is black and nothing visible through it, on my UI in game it is transparent and I see and click through it on things.

I'm feeling stuipid right now. It seems like something so simple that I am missing, yet I cannot figure it out.

Someone, please, enlighten me and feel free to flame my ignorant ass if it comes up to be something so stupid AND posted in the thread that makes it work. To the best of my understanding, I followed and did what it required.

Thank you.

I don't believe that you have MQ2 running properly. Here's a simple test... target something, spin yourself, and type "/face". If you turn to face your target, MQ2 is running. If you get the face selection window, your MQ2 has not properly started. Until it properly starts, the UI is not your problem.

Use the help forum, it's for help ;)

Thanks Programmer. I'll try that.

I thought it was working correctly because it is showing me the names of mobs in con colors, group leader name as LDR next to it, and all pets show owners' names.

I will give what you recommended a try.

My appologies for posting this in the wrong forum. From the description of the Help forum I saw, I didn't read it as being for general help. I'll post there in the future for help questions. Thanks!

Ok, could one of the mods please move this to the HELP Forum, please?

Quick note, I just logged in and ran the test to be sure it was running, and it is. Targeted turned away typed /face and spun around to fact the target.

Found the problem.

If you ever think MQ2 is working, but a lot of features aren't, kill the entire directory, download the most recient version of the MQ2 from this site and go through the set up steps again from the start. Make sure that the 2nd to last step is not missed at all. If you miss ANY of the check marks something isn't going to work.

That was my problem, somehow I missed one or more items, but I didn't get an error code so thought I was good to go.

While targeting anything and turning away from it and running the /face command will prove MQ2 is loaded and running, it does not prove you haven't "screwed the pooch" on the compile.

I learned something new today. I'm one step closer to being a dunce than an idiot.

Glad you got it running. I wish you knew exactly what was missed so the problem/solution could be easily identified, though if you knew what you missed you wouldn't have missed it in the first place, eh?

Very true. I'm just glad I got it working. Played around with it some today before the patch. Hope the fix doesn't take long, but I'm not worried about that.

If MQ was otherwise running (/face worked) then you either missed or didn't compile MQ2Labels. The MQ2Labels plugin is responsible for all UI label updates which make your unknowns known. If it isn't loaded, you won't get any of the MQ2 enhanced UIs to run.
