Emulator?

Since I'm going to be doing all kinds of testing, I wonder if there is a GOOD EQ emulator out there? Or a server emulator -- I've seen mention of one on the ShowEQ forums (yes, I run both -- I love gizmos) but I've never played around with it.
While I'm coding, I'd really like to avoid getting banned :) I can write a simple test-harness for now, but ultimately I'd like to see what the code does in a more "live" environment.
Or am I just better off setting up a fake/dummy account (using a game card?)?
I'm really excited about hooking new scripting up to MQ, but not excited enough to the point where I'm willing to sacrifice my mains for it :) Of course I'm clever with my scripting, but while I'm debugging -- who knows what will happen.

Thanks. RTFM I suppose. I was under the impression that the SEQ guys' emulator was Linux only. My bad...

Your post is just a dupe of Kaidwen's post.
eqemu.sf.net == eqemu.sourceforge.net
While I'm at it you can also goto
http://www.ethernalquest.org/, I posted the sourceforge project page because that server doesn't seem reliable. If you are looking for ease of setup, or an emulator you can download and just double click an exe file and login to the emulator than EthernalQuest is what you'll want. Most of the zones are populated, built-in item editor, nothing you need to setup, nothing extra you need to download or configure, etc... If you're looking for anything else, than EQEMu is what you'll want. Granted I haven't used EQEMu is almost a year, it tended to support far more things than EthernalQuest, although I was flamed the last time I made that point.

All I'm looking for is something that will trick the client into thinking it's connected. That will let me test BASIC functionality without fear of detection.
Next order of coolness would be basic live-server emulation. So, I can have my character fight a mob, and the mob will hit me, damage me, maybe run, maybe kill me, etc... Basically the more "EQ-like" the environment, the better, for testing purposes.
Balance this against ease of setup. I'd probably be able to setup and run any of these, but I don't wanna waste more time fiddling with the sim than getting my code to work. I just want to Not Be Banned while developing.
Fortunately, a lot of the proof of concept work can be developed offline, in a C++ test harness. But eventually I'd like to do things like manipulate the spawn list, set up triggers, timers, and events based on EQ interaction, and so on -- and this will require a live client (if not a live server).
Thanks.
I have a headache.

Well if that's all you're looking for then EthernalQuest should be more then enough. It supports everything you mentioned and would be best suited for that type of thing, mainly due to its ease of setup.

http://www.ethernalquest.org/ Just takes from eqemu, eqemu.sourceforge.net is close to being like the REAL everquest, like a month or so more.
Been talking to image lately and the ONLY thing that EQEmu is missing from being the real EQ is a price, some AA skills (Basicly AA skills work), some potions don't work, fights work but not too well, theres loot tables but some aren't correct (The guys in sleepers don't drop anything but money right now.), duels work but not in arenas, almost all spells work... ect ect ect.
While ethernalquest is just walking around summoning items with maybe 5 other people there, no fighting, no spells, notta.
(OH and EQEmu already has servers up 24/7, you connect to a master server or you start your own server, either way its on the server select for EQEmu, its open source you can change some things, you can lock your server, everything you need to test things, er well.... merchants don't work yet so you can't test ALL new macros.)

eqemu.net is definately more complete than ethernalquest. Although I don't know if either of them can do combines. (Well I know EthernalQuest can't). EqEmu set up a whole lot easier than EthernalQuest for me...

So EthernalQuest doesn't have combat in?
That's important to me when I start testing the responsiveness of timer-based events. Sounds like I'll need to go with eqemu.

Uhm, you're wrong about that. EthernalQuest most certainly has combat and such. EQEMu is more complete, however with the things that he is looking to use it for, it is not even worth the time setting EQEMu up. Also EthernalQuest does not take from EQEMu, they are not even written in the same language. Image just tends to be a bit on the arrogant side (and that's putting it lightly). Although as I stated in my previous post, I think that overall EQEMu is the better emu, and is much more complete features wise, it doesn't even come close to the ease of setup that EthernalQuest offers.

Not as much combat (Exact wise) as EQEmu, and yes they took EQEmu's login code, image got an email or something from him asking (I think, he knows for sure he took it.)
