Ok, newbie question

Dumb question, but i can't find the answer in the docs anywhere.
In the /who list, what does a # by a name mean?

It doesnt really mean anything. Lots of theories out there, as a rule of thumb they are a rare mob, a timered mob, or otherwise unique... i have no idea why this was added but i seem to rememeber it happening around the time ... hmm acutally i kinda forget i want to say it was back when they were chaning the encryption every few days....

maybe someone has a better answer but i've yet to see a theory thats completely accurate...
