Freeze

Post by Falco72 » Thu Apr 29, 2004 5:45 pm

In the last days I had some freezing issues with my system while having MQ2 loaded. It happens three times, one before the patch and two more times this evening. First time I was raiding with my guild when my system freezed after 30 mins of playing. This evening insteed I was testing my updated macros while two boxing and I got my computer utterly freezed. It happens two times, both after 15/20 mins of playing. I can do nothing else that hardware reset the computer. I use windows 2000 prof. Anyone had similar problems? I am trying to undestand where is the problem: in my system, in MQ2 or in EQ.

make sure its not hardware. does it happen without MQ2? I would highly doubt it has anything to do with MQ2. I'd check your video card fan if it has one. Drivers, etc...

I have had major lock up issues since DX9 with and without MQ2. After Thursday mornings patch, its not much better. I can tell you that if you turn off both sky options you will freeze less often.... but the problem is in the EQ client rendering engine. MQ2 or no MQ2, the client that we are using today is not stable.

I have also been having freezing problems, happened like 4 times today, only with MQ2 loaded. Tested without MQ2 and EQ loaded and played fine. Anyon else besides eqjoe and me having this issue?

Thats ridiculous.
Now I am freezing every two minutes, with or without MQ2. Of course, I am using an ATI videocard (9800 PRO). How are they programming in SOE? Are they using their feet insteed of their hands?
I have tried with MQ2 loaded, without MQ2, with EQW, without EQW (using EQ windowed mode), two boxing, with only one session opened, the results is always the same: FREEZED after no more than two minutes.
I am freezing also with the only EQ opened. No other programs running, only this bloody EQ.
AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit: now I reached the top. Logged in, made a 90 degrees turn, freezed. Reboot, relog, I found my char drowing in the water, got out of water, made a 90 turn, freezed again. Now I am giving up till next patch. Sorry to bother you with these stories. BTW, LAX YOU ROCK.

I'm guessing there is a memory leak in the graphics routine. EQ seems to be filling up the vid card memory and then not clearing it, which causes the computer to have to start using RAM instead. That fills up... you get progressively worse lag ending in a freeze.

Basically, the client is crap, unstable as hell. Expect a patch when they figure it out.

These problems seem to be the worst in zones such as PoK and PoE-B, by the way.

I am posting it again because things are becoming hilarious.
As I said last two freeze occurred in POT. First, I froze TURNING (not moving only turning) near the tunnel to HOH entrace. Relogged and I found my char drowing in the water near PON entrace. I toke it out the water and again TURNED and froze. NOW, when I come beck in EQ I found my char again drowing (probably he likes water) but this time on the very SW corner of POT, you know that place in the middle of the sea, where none have been before and, I repeat, I was near PON entrace when I froze. Now, after swimming like 5 minutes to reach the shore, finally I zoned in HOH and as soon as I zoned again I froze. I am very curious to find out where my char will be next time I log, probably in the middle of 4 recuso trying to drow him in a fontain.

Happend to me the other day without MQ running. I was able to crtl-alt-del and stop EQ. Restart and it was fine for the night. Not that this added much value, but you're not the only one. ATI card intrgrated into my notebook is the video card.
