MQ2Data Phase 3 - MQ2DataVars active - early.

The patch was a good time to ninja force this change on you. Macro depot will be cleaned up pretty soon.
Now before you start bitching about how you have to go through and fix your stupid little macros, let me bitch at you, now that you've had some time to simmer without having a fully working MQ2. We as developers (me especially, lately anyway) pour hours of work into making MQ2 do what you guys want it to do, and generally expect and receive nothing in return. For the record the time is now 6:20am local time, and I have been working on getting MQ2 into working order for many hours.
We develop MQ2 in our spare time, for fun. It's easy to take that for granted. Today I didn't even touch MQ2 until I felt like it, which was around midnight. The simple fact is that I dont even play this damn game, and I have better things to do than make sure you can all play it with your favorite tools. To date I have received exactly $10.00 in donations (minus paypal fees of course) -- note: I have no idea how much in donations has been sent to L124RD and we're still waiting on him to distribute whatever it is -- and that was from another developer. That wont even pay my monthly credit card bill, so why dont you tell me why I should be motivated to continue to develop MQ2 or even keep it working on patch days. Half the damn community whines about every new innovation anyway.
That really sums it up. Commence whining about MQ2Data and MQ2DataVars, it's entertaining to see how many people absolutely hate the improvements for the simple fact that they have to update their fucking macros. Cry about it you stupid assholes, I have to update your fucking macroquest every patch. You have to update your damn macro once, ever. Cry me a river.

I would like to say thanks also. Really love the magic you do with this program. Especially love getting cussed out for jumping the gun and not reading the boards before downloading the patch and compiling. He he he. Anyway, really appreciate you time and hard work. Sorry you feel unappreciated but that's just not true.
Thank You LAX!

And you actually have to wonder why you don't have a job?
You go a great job. Your coding skills are excellent. Your dedication to MQ, EQIM, and EQPlayNice is admirable. Your people skills are on par with a rabid dog.
In a corporate environment, forcing a change on a set of users will get you fired, whether that change greatly enhances their ability to do work or not. Might I recommend some change management methodology training, and some Paxil.
Ban me now, lock this thread, whatever. Sorry, but it had to be said.

Gee, the thing is though, this isn't a corporate enviroment.... They do this as a gift to us, they could keep it themselves. They could tell us to fuck off and make us wait 2 weeks for updates after patches, unless we knew how to do it ourselves. (This HAS happened in the past)... but they fix shit for us, they hold our hands...
If Lax got a wild hair up his ass, and wanted to do something stupid, completely stupid............. I mean fucking idiotic, that would break every macro, just for fun.... GOOD. It is THEIR fucking project, we are just users.
As to his attitude... Yup, he can be a dick. Maybe because he is sick of ungrateful pricks...

chickenisgoot: Apparently you don't read a lot of the posts and/or have never PM'd Lax for a good reason (not random BS). He seems to be a great guy very capable of professionalism when the situation warents it. However he does this for fun and to blow off steam - If we get a little of his "steam" on us in response to a post or because he makes a change he feels liike making we can either roll with the punches, update our own crap 1 way or the other - or simply deal with it.
Frankly if you don't like the Vars change, keep your old MQ2 Download, patch the header files to match the current EQ YOURSELF and keep running the way you want, If you want LAX to do it all for you then deal with what changes he feels like making.

Bombadil: there are a couple of donate links in the stick post at the top of this (MQ2::General) forum.

Oh my fucking god!
I cant believe the shit I hear on this board from fucking retards who bag the developers! ...
I seriously cant. I cant even BEGIN to twist my mind into the incomprehensible contortions required to even BEGIN to have any idea where some of you are coming from...
ITS FREE!
THE DEVELOPERS DO IT CAUSE THEY WANT TO!
THEY OWE US NOTHING!
....oh oh! spidersense tingling... or perhaps paranoia sense
SOE trying to schism the community?
You see! You see! Look what happens when I have to make sense of fucktards comments! *sigh*

I volunteer for free at a local hospital. That doesn't mean I should cuss out the patients when they ask me a question.
For what its worth, I just donated to LAX because I think his work is worthy of my dollars regardless of his attitude. Basically I am saying, there is a reason someone with his skill level has been out of work for 6 months.

Apparently I've been taking too much of a break from this project, and some of you newbs just haven't heard it yet. So I'll repeat myself one more time:
Mckorr wrote:Flaming devs is a "bad idea".
I too was frustrated with the changes Lax made, and yes, I've done some minor bitching about it (and yes, he knows I have.) It's only natural, we got used to one way of doing things and now it's all been turned upside down.
Then I sat down and thought about it. Plazmic did NOT originally write MQ for ease of scripting by the end user. He wrote it for himself, so he (and the other person who helped him, sorry, can't remember the name right now

) was the only one who needed to understand it. It didn't have to make sense, it just had to work.
What Lax has done is taken a mismatched, patched together system
designed for one man and develop it into a fully functional interpreted programming language. Yes, right now it's confusing because we are used to something else. Hell, every change to the MQ language has caused the same problems. But if you seriously sit down and look at it you'll see that it's clean, it's efficient, and it WORKS. No more workarounds ("/varset Variable", "/if n @Variable"). Consistent syntax. Excellent error checking.
The devs, and especially Lax, spend a great deal of their personal time, time they could be devoting to other pursuits or hobbies, working on this project. We do it because we enjoy the challenge more than we enjoy playing the game. We do it for free. So if we get a little testy when you complain, or outright whine, about something you aren't paying for, I'd say we've more than earned that privilege. Lax moreso than anyone else.
If you don't like the program, it's open source. Feel free to modify it to suit yourself. Everything is there and available for you. If you feel you've got a better way to do things,
suggest it. Better yet, come up with the code, convince us it's an improvement, and join the dev team.
Then you'll have the privilege of being short tempered here as well.
Lax, I'm a bit short right now due to retirement, but I'll happily front you the cost of a case of your favorite beer. Might I suggest Pete's Wicked Ale? Verrrrry nice.
Oh, and about that /varset thing: any way we can just change that to "${Variable} = Value"? I've never liked the /varset, /varcalc, whatever commands :) And I apologize now if you've already done that and I just missed it.[/i][/quote]
