MQ's maxfps option not doing it's job?

Post by Alzarius » Sat Mar 27, 2004 2:59 pm

Ok, here's my issue... If I run just macroquest, adjusting /maxfps settings, I get miniscule to no overall processor usage decrease. Pages still load like garbage(sometimes 30-60 seconds for popup windows, etc, etc. Running just EQ play nice, I get roughly 20-30% cpu usage meaning it shows only 20-30% usage instead of 90-100 with just MQ, and everything runs like a dream. This is with the CPU limter setting on, and NOT the fps limter setting on. I used to be able to run both MQ and EQ play nice side by side, but after a few updates ago, after about 2-3 minutes, I get booted to server select.

Yes, I know it's been said not to run both side by side, but... One, why am I not getting any performance increase with just MQ adjusting the FPS settings? Two, is it the cpu limiter option? and of so, does MQ have this in it and can I turn it on without needing EQ play nice? I checked out the MQ ini and didn't see the same on/off options for CPU/FPS that are in the EQ play nice ini. or can someone tell me what to do to get both running simultaneously?

Uhh... EQPlayNice has exactly the same options as MQ2FPS. EQPlayNice is based on MQ2FPS in the first place. Anyway, MQ2FPS is in FPS (calculate) mode. To switch to CPU (absolute) mode type /fps mode

Thank you very much! That did the trick. Sorry for it being a fairly dumb question. Just another of those times where something simple eludes me while I look for a complex explanation. It ticked me off a bit that I needed to post as I almost always find the answers on my own.
