Still not working...

RTFM....RTFM....RTFM!! STFU!!! I READ THE FKIN M!!!!!!!

I deleted MQ2 completely from my computer, downloaded MQ2, unzipped it, double-clicked on MQAuth.exe, and the DOS window flickered, and nothing. (YES I RAN MQAuth.exe FIRST, BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE SO DONT TELL ME I DIDNT FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS!!)

Again, I followed the step by step post (with all the screen shots) and when all was said and done. I double-clicked MacroQuest2.exe and got this.

a required .DLL file, MQ2MAIN.DLL, was not found.
When I double-clicked on MQAuth.exe it opens a DOS window that simply says the following,

MQAuth0.h up-to-date
MQAuth0.h must be compiled into MQ2 to allow this computer to use it.

Then is promptly closes itself. The DOS window is barely open for 0.5 seconds, but multiple openings allows some readability to it.
Go ahead and lock this post again, but the problem is not something I didn't do. I did everything that the instructions said, and I used the Step by Step Install/Compile for FREE Guide. (The Sticky with all the screenshots)

I'll have to do that tomorrow when I get out of class, I don't own VS so I use the free one in the Sticky Guide.

If that is to let me Build or Batch Build, I went to View -> Toolbars -> Build and edited to have Batch Build on it.

I've had a similar problem about a week ago when the new map plugin was entered but with a small bug in it. I tried adjusting the code with the solution that was provided here on the boards and I got the same mq2main.dll problem.. it wasnt compiling correct so it wasnt there in the release directory.

How I fixed it was to download the updated cvs file (the map-plugin one) that was not yet in the zip-file and it worked after that.

Not in the mood to check anything but maybe the zip file isnt updated yet and you manually have to download the cvs'd version of the map plugin file?

Scryn, one more outburst like that and I'll kick you out of here.

You didn't read the manual, or you'd have known that just running MQAuth.exe and MacroQuest.exe won't do shit. You have to compile MQ to get the required DLL's.

So... run mqauth.exe. A DOS box will flicker into existance briefly as it creates/updates MQ2Auth0.h. That box is not supposed to stay open.

Next, compile MQ2. That creates the DLL's.

THEN you can run MacroQuest.exe.

OK, if you ran MQ2Auth first, then follow the rest of the fucking instructions properly. You need to build MQ2Main first. I'll assume you're using VC6 since the dependencies work right in .NET. So, build it first as the instructions say and quit fucking whining that you read the god damn instructions.

I'm sorry but when I said I read the instructions, I was Speaking English, the way my post was locked and the reply I got was quite rude.

I will say it again, I ran MQ2Auth.exe, used VC6 to build MQ2Main and THEN I tried to run MacroQuest2, same error. I'm not sure exactly what's wrong. But it's ok. I'm done trying to get it to work. Not worth it if certain people make a big deal about asking simple questions no matter how many times they've been asked and answered. Those people could simply...uh, not answer/post maybe. But then again, who am I to say who should/shouldn't post.

Anyways, thanks for those who didn't blow up on me for such a small question. Maybe when there is a better spin off of MQ that can be installed easier (including compiling) I'll try again. Until then...bleh.

The Filter(TM) works again, but will try to help anyway.

From the readme included in the release folder when you unzip:
1. Install Visual C++ 6.0 or Visual Studio 6.0
2. Download the MacroQuest2 source files
3. Unzip it into any new folder
4. Go to the newly created folder and double click MQ2Auth.exe
5. Double click macroquest2.dsw file. This will Open Visual C++
6. Select Build -> Set Active Config and select MQ2main. Click OK
7. Select Build -> Build MQ2main.dll
8. Select Build -> Batch Build. Click the Build button.
From what you describe you are not compiling the rest of the dll's(Step 8).

When you are finished compiling, what dll's exist in the release folder?

i agree with Wassup, i just recently (past few weeks) looked into mq, and well, i had no problems getting it to work with the instructions they provide

it sounds as if you are buidling it once with MQ2main.dll and not going through and doing a batch build.

good luck.
