Is there a way to open a merchant's inventory other than walking up to them? I heard discussion that people were opening their bank inventory from across the zone and basically was wondering if this is technically possible to do.
So question is, is "That target is too far away." a client-side check that can be overriden or server-side?
Nothing I hate more than running all over PoK vendor farming.

Is this a function I am just missing that is already in MQ? I just can't for the life of me find it if it exists.
Or is this one of those "if you are my buddy" functions that have yet to make it to the public version?

its a "if you are my buddy" function and hopefully it will not make it to the cvs anytime soon.
We allready gave you /click right target which opens a merchant just fine if you are within range... /alias /openmerch /click right target
I guess your real question here is, can the rangecheck be bypassed clientside. Answer is yes. and i dont believe that you find the solution for that even if you get yourself O.o access at f-h. And at this time noone in their right mind that has that feature working will share it or even sell it, if you are lucky you might be able to score a precompiled version with that feature. And if thats not acceptable, you are left with a choice... write that function yourself as a plugin perhaps?

. please dont disclose info on how to hack (even if they dont work anymore) on this board.
But you are right, that is not the way to accomplish it but only a stupid way to get caught.
