The best luck with the compiler!

I was stressing over compiling the code and such since I have no idea how to do any of that craziness you all speak of what with programming and visual whatnot. I somehow make out that i need a cvs client and a compiler of some type. Well I dled the CVS client and and downloaded the source code from that even though I'm not sure why i had to do that(because i think i see the code DLable off the main page..) Anyway I had to find a freakin compiler! I looked in Kazaa and such with no avail (I didn't want to wait 100+ hours to dl the damn thing) When I remembered my dad had purchased a "Teach Yourself C++ in 20 days" outfit. I pulled it out of the "Things I never did" chest and blew the dust off of it. To my relief there was a CD rom with Microsoft Visual C++ in the kit. I installed it and opened it. This is where my problem arose. I HAD NO IDEA WHAT THE HELL I WAS DOING. I looked at your guys' tips and stuff and all I could gather was the word Project file and build. I don't know wtf Nmake or cd macroquest\eqlib is at all. So I opened the project file through the compiler. All I did next was search for the word BUILD in the various menus. I found it and clicked on a few of the commands i think they were BUILD and REBUILD ALL. After clicking randomly a few times and seeing various processes scroll acros the bottom. It said Blah blah Built successfully Errors: 0 Warnings: 0. I was surprised and happy to find a completed Macroquest Exe and eqlib.dll in the release folder and they work famously!
The moral is I'm happy and junk!

Ahh, the time honored "clicking randomly" technique! This has been my strategy for getting computers to work since day #1. It's popularity is rivaled only by the "technical tap" in which a computer operator makes a fist and bashes it on top of their computer, VCR, etc.

You forgot to mention the "Moving mouse" technique. Where you click on something and then move your mouse all around the screen to help speed up the process.

lol "Technical Tap"... good term. I used to have a computer I called Frankenstein. Gods the things I did to that machine! Eventually the only way to get it to work was to thump it real hard on top of the case... the fans would stop making that horrible grinding noise and everything would power up and run fine....

LMAO Now, if this guy got it compiled with the random click technique I don't think distributing .exe is much worse. (I don't support .exe distro, just saying something funny)

Grats to the Uber clicker on your new MQ client. :) I needed a decent laugh today.

I prefer the term "Impact Maintenance" for those helpful little nudges for non-cooperative machines.
