There are indeed several of us playing the beta which...for everyone's knowledge, ends this friday the 21st.
In the 4 or 5 hours I have played, I have learned much about the way the game works and what might be necessary to form a powerful guild. For the uninitiated, I'll fill in what I do know.
*At higher levels, and in un-safe zones, everyone, everywhere, is a PK.
*Yes, people can loot your corpse too.
*At low levels (under 10) you don't see much in the way of group tactics.
*At higher levels, people play much the same as in EQ.
*Up to 10 people may group together, and you EACH get about 90% of the total xp available on a given monster. This means that there is NO advantage to soloing, and that soloing is largely unpossible (yes, I said unpossible) at higher levels.
*Shadowbane is not all about leveling. It's about strategically choosing skills that will make your chosen race/class/profession/discipline more effective. Leveling is FAST, especially in a large group.
*As of right now there are some largely useless professions/disciplines
*The Mage Assassin will probably be the most popular combo because they are very powerful, but there is one class (my class ;)) that can wreck them.
*There are only 4 base classes: fighter, rogue, healer, and mage
*Within these 4 bases, you could make 5 fighters of the same race and wind up (even by level 20) with 5 completely and totally different characters, each badass in their own respective field. Raid management will be tricky.
*You can only have 5 total characters per account, regardless of server.
*Being a caster is a lot less difficult in SB, at least the little I have played, but IMO it still sorta sucks. It is, however, VERY important.
*Mana and HP's come back FAST, think like regen fast, even as your levels go up.
I could go on for a long time, but I won't. I do believe that if we get together several of us who have played beta, plus several people who plan to play it hardcore (I don't have the time to, that's why EQ always daunted me, I never had time to get a high toon), we could definately establish one of the first uber guilds and one of the first fortresses, something which if done early could mean real domination. Imagine us owning our own town, and being able to affiliate diplomatic relations with other guilds operating like we are. Of course, we cannot post a guild name here, but if you are interested in joining us, IM me: MotownSARdogs and we'll see what we can do.

the SN, for anyone who wonders, is because I live in an M-town and I have two Search and Rescue dogs. :)
