Use of macro's

Post by Roodie » Sat Jan 18, 2003 7:44 pm

Hi all, I am a first time user of MQ, or I will be when I download it.

I seem to remember a while back that VI posted a message saying that the use of unattended macro's was a bannable offense, which implied that the use of a macro while at the screen was acceptable. I have RSI which means that trade skilling is damn painful, and since I am hoping to start up on the most intensive trade skill quest ever (Thurgadin Shawl) I was hoping to use MQ to raise them.

One of the things I have noticed is turbo macro's. I am quite happy to sit at the screen while MQ works my skills, but the idea that a macro will do this faster than the game usually would is kinda offputting. Am I right in thinking that this is what happens or is it just a way of streamlining a macro so that every click is almost exactly as fast as possible?

I understand that you need to use the old UI to work tradeskills, and I was thinking of using combine.mac, but there must be other scripts that work a skill up exclusively? Jewellry.mac was an obvious choice for getting to 250, are there others for other trade skills?

Thanks for your help !

It is possible to put delays into the scripting to slow down the process. The makers of Everquest also caught on to this Turbo feature, and now it is not possible to do more than 1 combine per second.

In the combine mac, there is a delay which makes the macro wait for 1 second between combines to allow for this delay. You would be able to easily put more delays in between each action of the macro. The overall process will take longer, but if it eases your conscience, then it is advisable to do so.

The line of code is

/delay #s

Where # stands for the number of seconds you would wish this to wait.
