Wow...Xylobot seems to have many features...

Post by Morath » Mon Nov 25, 2002 1:14 pm

I just happened to see mention of Xylobot in another post and decided to check it out...

Lots of features that may make the game.......easier?

Anyway, just looking for some feedback on this program, if it has been used, is it worth the $20 they want for it, is there many bugs with it, is it a nice addition to EQW and MQ?

Thx in advance for any info you pps might have to share about this before I try it out...

Xylobot

Xylobot is rather neat, though a more general approach to macro-ing in EQ.

It really doesn't provide any extra functionality in EQ and has some problems. One of my favorites was that you have to wait for the previous command to complete to stop a script. So if you were on a 3 minute pause(medding), it would not stop until 3 minutes were up.

It also doesn't know when you are trying to type. So if you setup a bot or something in it, then wanted to reply to someone, there's a good chance you would get a "/doability 3" or some other command in your reply(or /ooc) instead of what you wanted to type.

I really can't think of anything(besides newui) that you can do in Xylobot that you can't do in MQ.

I actually bought this program when he first started selling it. Im not sure of the developments in the past couple years though.
One reason i dont use it today is the fact that i lost my PW to use it, and the guy was rude in the email about he warned me not to loose it and he would not give me my PW again. So screw Xolobyt

I experimented with the trial version a bit. The "night vision scope" is an interesting feature, but other than that I saw no real advantage to using it over MQ.

I did see a disadvantage though. Lag. The extra memory and graphics load created by Xylobot gave me terrible lag, a problem I never have with MQ. Granted I'm not using an ultra modern system (K7-750 w/ 512 RAM and a GeForce 2), so maybe this isn't an issue for other folks. But I couldn't deal with the freeze frame motion.

Consider as positives for Xylobot

1) Cant get (or harder to get) caught using it versus MQ
2) Doesnt delete all your items when you zone (using new ui)
3) Supports newui

The negatives still outweight the positives for me but those are the ones that were important to me

Can't get(Harder to get) caught using it?

I'm sure they might wonder how you ended up with a reply such as the following:

"heya! how are y/doability 3"

No way for that to happen except using an external program. Maybe they would believe the "i have a keyboard with programmable keys" argument, maybe not.

There is also some argument on the Xylobot boards about whether GMs can catch you doing a certain keypress(such as alt-]) which you have no reason to do in EQ(except when used with Xylobot).

MQ no longer deletes items when you zone. Xylobot is nice if you want on screen mapping. However I would never use it for macroing since MQ is much better.
