One of the recent patches changed the behavior of handing in quest items stacked. You can no longer stack any quest item. If you turn in a stack of any number, all but 1 will be thrown away. I don't know if this is a bug or a permanent change.

It used to be that you could turn in a stack of up to 4 items and they would be treated correctly. You could even turn in 4 stacks of 4 at one time and get quest credit 4 times. But it is no longer like that. You can only put 1 non-stacked item in the slot. Anything more than 1 in a stack will be lost.

Just FYI before you lose your quest items.

Are you sure it was to stop the 20/10 dupe? From what I heard, you opened a trade window with a merchant with a stack of 20 item X and a stack of 10 item X. Then you did something to get the merchant window to open. Or something like that. I never did it, so I don't know the exact trick.

But I have tried giving a stack of items to a merchant and he gives them all back. So it doesn't seem like this change is related to that since I would expect the merchant to only give back 1 item instead of the whole stack. But maybe I don't understand what the 20/10 trick really was.

In any case, Verant should have announced this change about the quest NPC behavior since it is causing a lot of people to lose their items.
