Thinking of returning to EQ, what characters to restore?

I quit EQ just before the level cap hit 65, and i'm thinking of coming back. WoW is filled with 13 year old kids with ADHD and EQ2 is just... bleh.

I can afford to reactivate 3 of my accounts, I'd like to run MQ for xp/aa at night or even attended macroing while doing other things, I was just curious about what classes some of you here would pick for doing small group xp at night.

I've got available to me:

Monk, Shaman, Druid, Cleric, Chanter, Warrior.

I was thinking the monk, shaman and druid. Thoughts?

If you can twobox...Enchanter + Druid can do about anything with the right gear.

My gear will be pretty bad compared to what's around now, I retired when the level cap was at 60, all my accounts are decked out in good NToV/Luclin gear, with 100+ AA pretty much.

I've got 3 machines I can run at once, unless MQ will run multiple instances on the same machine, I've got to read the Wiki a bit better :D

If you run 2 instances of EQ in EQW or WinEQ, MQ will load itself into both.

war, shm, clr. - prolly the most basic functioning group. Once you get a bit higher in lvl the shaman can be farly good dps w/ the new proc spells w/o much attention at all. Not to mention the slows, buff, spot heals, and endless shammy mana. Enchanters are fairly useless. If you need mana regen just hit PoK and get a 3-4 hour kei and don't die. Only thing chanter can do that shammy couldn't would be provide l33t charm dps... but you have to be in a zone where you can charm, preferably have all the charm AAs, and have to pay attention to your carhmed pet (haven't really seen any plugin that could handle that too well).

Either way, you need to cover the tank, slower, healer portions. Druid is dead weight for a healer if you get to killing anything worth while (oom all the time from spamming fast heals). Monk is nice dps, but warrior will tank a lot better. And again, enchanter are fairly gimp.. shamans have disease based slows so they are even superior in the slow dept. If another class had a spell anything close to c6 that didn't stack chanters would so hit the 100% useless mark instead of the 90% they are now =x

Bam, thanks for the great reply, I reactivated the warrior(ogre) and shaman tonight, can't get the cleric account to log in or recover, so I'll have to talk to SOE tomorrow.

Thanks for the help and replies, I'll get the basic 2man functioning tonight hopefully, donate to the devs and get the cleric worked out tomorrow.

Lax had posted in another thread that EQ is dead. I'm not sure to be honest. I've tried all the other MMO's out there, I wouldn't be surprised after the server merge if EQ1 didn't see some resurgance. Could just be wishful thinking tho ;P

Good choice. I started off SK/Shaman (before i knew mq2) and i was able to duo most places with no problem. Adding the cleric you will be able to do a shit load more. At high levels shamans are insane dps. All dot spells/ focus, plus shaman omens buff proc on a pet you will easily see over 300 total dps. Don't know if your warrior will hold that aggro though :D

EQ is going to be here for a very very very long time. Out of all the mmos out there its the most successful one and you expect that to die while anarchy online, ultima online, dark age of camelot,FF,and the 2 million shitty other mmos out there that have no signs of dying yet?.I give it at least 5 more years but i wouldnt be surprised if i see a 30th eq1 anniversary.

Yeah, you made the right choice, warrior and shaman are a good team. I would pick the cleric or chanter for the next one, more the cleric if you can get the cleric up.

But I would have to agree with you. EQ is far from dead. With the crowd that WoW is attracting and the crap that EQ2 is, it just means that we are getting rid of the kids and a lot of the old players would probably come back to EQ. I have played both. I hated them personally and came back to EQ. And everyday I see more and more people coming back from these games to return to us in EQ. I think after all the server merges that we will see the same if not more people on at the same time on a server then we did before the release of these games.

war / cleric / chanter you dont need spot heals and you have crowd control taken care of. Shaman is nice but no way can it compare to an enchanter. Almost everyone dies. Sitting / running to POK every few hours for a buff just waistes time.

Mez > disease based slow (that isnt needed for much asides from Emp Seru and few other mobs mainly raid targets)

Charm is getting nerfed massively up the ass with the class rebalancing stuff though.

CC is over rated. Most zones warriors can single pull in these days. On the occation that they get multipls war can just get agro and tank two slowed mobs no big deal. I get praised all the time for my pulling as a bard... thats fine in raids where I use bardly type skills.. but in exp groups I could get 95% singles walking into agro range and no fade. Zones like MPG, WOS, RS etc are a big joke to pull ... not to mention things like DoN where is all way too easy (but still gives nice exp).

for some reason, my cleric account got banned, even though I hadn't played it in over 2 years... seems someone was using the account to buy/sell plat. Guess I forgot to change the password when I quit, some old guildies must have had access.

So I brought the enchanter back for now, and I'm just going to have to rush a cleric, or buy one from playerauctions for 100 bucks...

I wish SOE would batch up expansions so you could just buy them all digitally for less $$, I need 4 expansions on 3 accounts, that adds up quick.

It's ok, war / shm / enc is a great team, you can just about 3 box anywhere with that team.
