missing windows.h

Post by Thogec » Tue Feb 08, 2005 7:26 am

so far I've tried several of the ways mentioned on these boards to compile this program and I keep getting the same error

"------ Build started: Project: MQ2Main, Configuration: Release Win32 ------
Compiling...
MQ2Windows.cpp
c:\Documents and Settings\Tania\Desktop\MQ2\MQ2Main\MQ2Main.h(31) : fatal error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'windows.h': No such file or directory
========== Build: 0 succeeded, 13 failed, 0 up-to-date, 0 skipped ==========
"

It says the same thing for the entire build. I chose to cut off the rest of the message because of the redundancy.
A little help please. And this is the entire message string from tring to compile

I have been using both Visual C++ 2005 express, as well as the Microsoft Visual C++ toolkit 2003.

I have also attempted to use the walkthrough posted by TheWarden at
http://www.macroquest2.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4761

no success with either.

I had the same problem and eventually gave up after loading so much crap to my machine I couldn't get a third instance of EQ to run smoothly.

Copy window.h from C:\Program Files\Microsoft Platform SDK for Windows XP SP2\Include to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\VC\include

I copied all the files to be safe :P

No no no no and more no. That will work... BUT:

Instead of doing that, what you want to do is add the platform SDK directories to the default directories used by Visual Studio. I'm not sure if the way to do that is exactly the same in 2005 as it is in 2002-2003 but the way in 2002 is Tools -> Options, click Projects on the left, VC++ directories.. select "Include files" in the upper right dropdown box, and add the directory to the includes. e.g. C:\Program Files\Microsoft Platform SDK for Windows XP SP2\include
In fact the platform SDK installer put that line there for me. Do the same thing for "library files" but to the lib path, e.g. C:\Program Files\Microsoft Platform SDK for Windows XP SP2\lib
