I admire what these people have done with this program, I admire their resilience inspite of pending doom...

Due to the ignorance of a few individuals who lacked the cognitive reasoning to keep their macroing to a safe minimal, this program is under intense scrutiny...and as such the rest of us who used the tools properly have been penalized as well.

I do not pretend to be the innocent, as I have used this tool for all it is worth, all in the name of gaining an advantage over all the nameless sheep...the difference is that I did not abuse it, I did not make my actions known to all who passed within earshot...

I say they should completely remove all functionality for merchant macroing...it would'nt be too hard...then the rest of us could get on using our tools for better things...

I am not an ignoramus, I would never get banned, unlike the greedy bastards that I spoke of...besides, if that is your only response to my statement then you completely missed the entire point, I am not blaming anyone for my actions, I am blaming them for theirs...

It is because of them that the rest of us are under scrutiny...

You guys seem to have totally missed the point. As I understand it he is simply upset with those whom abused MacroQuest and in turn helped to draw so much attention to it, which hurts everyone, even those who are trying to use MQ for slightly more legitimate reasons (injury, a few enhanced commands, etc...).

imo its just like saying

let me explain something to you in a way that you might possibly comprehend since you obviously lack the intelligence to read a statement above the third grade level...

Again, I am not saying that these people are "cheating" and I am not, what I am saying is that they were greedy, and it was because of that greed that the program is now being carefully watched by VI/SONY. I do not use macros to make money, I use them to make the game more fun...who wants to click on a button more times than I care to count, when you can simply run a macro to do it...

Now...to address your "comment" about my importance, let me shed some light on your malinformed statement...

First of all, if you are going to insult someone, do it without mispelling every other word, because undoubtedly you are in fact only insulting yourself, second...do not presume to know me...while you lack the ability to comprehend the simplest of statements, even after someone broke it down for you....

Judging by your lack of comprehension and mispelled (3rd Grade) words all I can do is laugh at you, and in some dark corner of my heart even feel pity for you...

I hate it when people have to flaunt their 'intellectual superiority' over other people. It's so pointless. You make yourself look like an asshole, as well as people who can't spell. Anyhow, who gives a flying f--- if they can spell or not? As long as it's somewhat readable and doesn't make your eyes bleed from trying to decrypt it, IT'S OK.

Oooh you can use big words. I shiver in fright before you. Want a cookie? Try talking in a language that's easy to read by the common person so they don't have to look up every other word you say. Anyhow, back to the main topic... macros! Sure, some people are greedy and use macros to fill their pocketbook. I'm guilty of this. Do you know how hard it is to get legit money in EQ? Sure, you can hunt HGs but I'd rather gouge my eyes out with hot pokers than to hunt HGs for the rest of my life for that fungi tunic or stupid earring. It's convenient, and we take advantage of the tools available to us to make money for us instead of pressing repetitive keys/mouseclicks, *cough*. Oh so what about that l33t 100k item that you can supposedly camp so easily? Hi, not everyone is in uberguild_01 or have so many great friends like you, that can oh so easily camp uberitem_01 and find a sucker in bazaar to buy it for the l33t 100k. At the moment I'm unguilded, and getting items isn't easy. Droppable even. Even in a guild, getting so many items can make you look greedy TO THE GUILD and eventually make other people look down upon you, or boot you out of the guild. It's why we turn to macroing for money. It's convenient, easy, and it saves our butt from looking greedy where it counts. Okay it seems like we're selfish, but it's worth it when you're tired of being poor and have a chance to ride a 100k horse, sport a fungi, and have very nice droppable items.

It's like a car. Cars were meant to be driven around to transport people. Then came people like us. We discovered cars can be taken to the next level and we race them. We push our findings and discoveries to the limit and we make dreams possible. We are the racers.

I blame the person who gave out the c6 macro *shrug*. It was just another in the long line of cheese type macros. It happens, then something else that generates more money comes into the game and more morons find out bout it, ya just gotta move on. Was a nice few months for me I had with c6 while it lasted and when noone knew about it, personal script was faster for some reason than tribes anyhow No way in hella I am gonna touch any of my fletch scripts nowdays, even with my mule account.

I'd just like to say thank you to Rage...who very adeptly summed up my feelings on the usage of the plat/merchant macros. We all, I believe, agree that poor/greedy/unprudent usage of these macros is bad and the attacks on MQ based on such behavior are bad.

Alot of the major posters here are admitting they have used the plat/merchant macros too. Not directed at the original poster, but at the community in general (that is if you want this to be a community instead of dissolving into flames) please dont instantly flame people who ask about such macros. In my case, Im going to use a lot of the features to automate lots of mundane tasks like Deepwater Helm heals, changing from 2h wep to 1h + shield and so forth...but I asked about the merchant macro first. That shouldnt be a crime.

The rage of the initial poster is justified...and heck we all know forums are places to /rant. Heck, nothing wrong with being more selective with who you give info to either. Id just like this not to be flame central.

I am just a simple macro user. I have played Ultima Online for the last 5 years and have used every program available to that one to make money. I sold tens of thousands of dollars worth of items in UO over the last couple of years. I enjoy the income that it provided. I can tell you that the UO policy has always been, macro... but do it while in front of your computer, because if you are caught macroing unattended, you will be banned. So I used the macros to keep my hands from becoming jelly and never being able to use them for my real life work. I made some good money. It definately helped out over the last couple of years.

Now, I just started playing EQ about 3 months ago, and searched the internet for tools and utilities to use with EQ. The very first one I bought (paypal donation) was EQWindows. That, in a nutshell, is the only way to play EQ. Then I started searching around for other utilities and found this program. Macro generation, cool, this is a great utility. So I stumble around for a little while trying to figure this thing out. In the meantime, I am also checking out Xylobot. Same idea, different implementation. So anyway, I come to the conclusion that this is the utility that makes the most sense. It has good features built into and it works well.

A month or so after starting EQ (and purchasing 3 accounts from other players) and starting to really get into the game, I come to find out that 3rd party utilities like EQWindows, and Macroquest are bannable offenses. Now coming from the UO experience where they actually have an official UO sanctioned 3rd party verification system, where they authorize specific 3rd party programs for use with UO, I am thinking in my mind, "what is causing VI to be so inane. "

Then I remember a couple articles that I had read a while back on stratics.com. It was a comparison between the once CEO of Origin Richard Garriot (Lord British) and the COO of Verant Interactive (John Smedley). In the one article it described Lord British as saying how excited and mystified he was that virtual gold pieces (the only form of money in UO) were worth actual real life money. And, in fact, was worth more than the real money of many actual nations in the world at that time. He thought this was the coming of a new era. Virtual real estate, virtual money, a truly immersive virtual environment where people jockied for position as they do in real life, but this time if you fail, nobody really gets hurt.

I think he was a true visionary that literally realized that the game he created was no longer under his control, but the control of the people playing it. And he LIKED that idea.

Then there was comments made by John Smedley that led to the state of EQ today. He felt that they(VI) controlled the servers, the software, the environment and by golly they weren't about to give up those rights. So he started his legal team on shutting down all possibility of the player community from using the game to create a tie to the real world (In other words, being able to sell items for real life money.)

They succeeded on taking down the big boys, just like the music industry did with Napster, but the little guys were too quick to be snagged by the behemoth that is Sony. (Notice Sony is also in the music industry). So we have sites like Ebay.com folding to the pressure, but up pops smaller sites like playerauctions.com.

So here we are today with a company that considers it's product the complete and soul possesion of that company and you are lucky that they let you pay them to play in their playground. But what they didn't have control over was the human condition to expand beyond the confines anyone places on them. So we therefore has astute programmers who understand the way the game works, the way networking packets work, and voila, we have Macroquest and Xylobot and EQwindows, etc...

And just like in real life, people will use the tools available to do different tasks. While some like the ability to target a character or MoB anywhere on zone, or others like the /face command so that they can find that guard in front of a city and run straight to them, or others even still like it for the fact that they can earn some extra money from it. Nobody is cheating or wrong for what they do. They are just using the tool that is available. Now, VI says that any tool used in EQ is a violation of the EULA, but we are human beings for God's sake and we will find a way to do what we want to do. If we are banned by VI, we create another account. If that one is banned, we create another.

So, in the long and short of things, just like we enjoy downloading music off the internet, and companies like Sony continue to keep trying to stop it, we will continue to use 3rd party utilities in EQ and Sony will keep trying to keep us from using it. Will we lose a few battles along the way? Sure, but in the long run, companies like Sony will have to start offering the tools and utilities that people want in their games or programs like EQwindows and Macroquest will continue to flourish. And if Sony/Verant wants to keep making money in the real world, they better make sure that the virtual world they create provides for the most diverse set of players in the world.

UO started with the concept that players controlled the worlds they created, and we just need to keep hammering away until Verant has the same idea. We are not the people pods in the Matrix to be milked dry of all we have, we are paying customers that allow them to remain in business. If we use 3rd party utilities to provide that enjoyment, I say, all the better. And if we make some money off of that playing environment, I say God Bless capitalism.
