Sorry, we've been forced to close the site because of a lawsuit against the project from Sony Online Entertainment. We cannot pay for the legal fees and agreed to take the site down and discontinue work instead. We hope you understand. - the devs

To Whom It May Concern:

Our firm is intellectual property counsel to Sony Online Entertainment, Inc
"SOE", a Delaware corporation, with a place of business at 8928 Terman Court,
San Diego, CA 92121.

It has recently come to SOE's attention that services/information being offered
at macroquest2.com are in conflict with the intellectual property
rights owned by SOE. SOE has expended vast resources to bring a fair virtual
gaming experience to the public. In order for SOE to continue these services,
SOE must hold violators of its intellectual property rights fully liable for
any harm it suffers. This includes both direct or indirect harm which results
from any present and continued improper dissemination of its proprietary
information. The longer that macroquest2.com continues its
improper activities, the longer the damages will accrue.

If you have any questions, or believe you have received this letter in error,
please let us know. In the mean time, the above is not a full statement of
SOE's rights and remedies, all of which are reserved, and both we and SOE
intend to continue monitoring the activities of macroquest2.com
and will contact you again, if necessary.

Very truly yours,

um....... now im a bit worried as well. if its an april fools joke this is kinda a long ways to go.... and so sony loses everyone that plays eq now :P

sigh this suxors :\

but then again i don't think sony would refer to themselves are acronyms... i believe they would say Sony Online Entertainment INC. with the trademark symbol lol but thats me....

also the devs not posting a thread on the boards saying they are shutting the project down is kinda odd too isnt it? just my opinion....

Solusek Almighty! Seeing that page brought absolute trepidation to my heart -- I just couldn't picture myself playing EQ without MacroQuest. Ah, I'm so glad I remembered what date it was before I cancelled 'em. Great April Fool's Joke, guys... now if I can just get my heart to stop beating at an extremely heightened pace...

James E. Rosini has over 20 years experience in litigation and adversarial matters concerning all aspects of intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, copyrights and unfair competition as well as related entertainment, publishing, music, computer, Internet, domain name and right of publicity issues.
What's scarier... That they researched out this April Fools Joke this far? Or that we researched it this far to find out if it was valid?
