some people suck, some dont...

eqjoe wrote:Its time to ask ourselfs why that is.. why does Xylobot suck... and why is it that it still works.
Let me answer that...

Do we think Xylobot sucks because it doesnt write to memory?
In that case we can make it do that... all it takes is a com object... there is plenty of examples in the XB forum... go look how the send email com object is working for example...

The thing is, I do everything I ever did with MQ using it...
I can face & I can target and I can even do stupid things like cheesecombine and all the other tradeskill shit.

So let me rephrase the question:

Does it suck because we dont know how to use it in the way we want? in that case its not XB that sucks its us, for not being able to write XB scripts that do what we want it to do...

I think if we are honest we will answer, that it does not suck at all, as long as we learn how to use it properly...

Actually, I agree. I have been working on learning how to use it, although I'm not successful, it looks like it can do it all, and it works.

I don't like XB for one very simple reason. It's memory hungry. Even if I'm not using "nightvision", maps, whatever it induces a great deal of lag in my system.

Granted, I don't use an extremely high end system. Classic Athlon 750, GeForce 2, 512 SDRAM. But the memory overhead for MQ was very slim in comparison to XB, and rarely, if ever, added any significant lag to my system.

Oh sure, I could use XB, disable everything in EQ that makes it visually appealing, and avoid any high traffic zones (which is most of them these days). Personally, I'd rather work on fixing MQ.

Remember, for some of us it's not the "necessity" of having a working macro program, it's the challenge of making the one we do have work.

As a final note, this is a DEVELOPMENT forum, not a discussion of why Xylobot is better than MQ, or why we should stop work on MQ. If you don't have anything to contribute to development, please post to a different forum. Sick 'em Liz!

My point is that if one where to continue to develop MQ, what can we learn from Xylobot that we use in that development. Why does it not allow for effective melee character movements? Why does it never need an new offset updated in a configuation file? Why does click work, and why does the mouse need to be calibrated? Most of all, why does Xylobot stil work. Or rephrased, what could SoE do to keep Xylobot from working. If work is to be done on MQ, what can be done to keep it working without a massive amount of recode after every patch.

My first point is that IMO, the project needs to move underground, it needs a new name, and this forum needs to be replaced as a means of comunication between interested parties.

How are you doing /face or getting other target info from Xylobot?

I couldnt agree more, mq was a very powerful tool and it is never a good idea to give a loaded gun to a fool. Too many mq users of days past were fools, moose staring into the headlights to quote Domo.

I think moving it underground wouldn't be that bad of an idea. I also wouldn't mind paying for it to encourage further development and pay the developers for their time.

I would hate to see it move underground. Although I am not a coder, I did support MQ. I donated $30 in hopes fo keeping the program alive. I fear that moving the program underground would make it impossible for the standard user like myself with no coding experience to partake in MQ.

What I was trying to say was, you become a member. You either help pay costs, or code. But I think the Dev's want to keep it open source, not sure.

Maybe to download MQ you need to download and sign up for Entropia to help fight AIDS and cancer.

OK got ya, I can deal with that. I thought you were going to hide the program so only a select group who were working on the program could use it, which with all the retards filling up in the forum I could understand. I just dont wanna lose my chance to be using this program. I dont know how to code ( well I do but very little, I am still in the relm of the first "Hello World program) anyway I do know html and have made some pretty fat websites. I can help in that way if you guys would like.

keep it open source, but make a huge frickin disclaimer "in order to download this or view the code you may not be affiliated with/do menial shit for SOE under some sort of fine"

NOT distributing binaries works for me... at least raise the bar a bit and require everyone to compile thier own.
