There was a hack a few years back (may still be around for all I know) that allowed you to modify your speed. Permasow by hex editing. Now this was a safe hack, as long as you turned it off before zoning. If you zoned while permasowed then you could be caught.

See, good ole VI had set up a check that occured during zoning and flagged your account. How? No clue. Why only during zone? No clue. My thought on the matter was that perhaps there were certain values that were sent during the normal course of the game when you zone. Now if I'm a developer and you ask me to stop cheating - without inserting extra checks into the game - then I'm going to take advantage of when you (the client) send me (the server) the most information. I'm guessing this is during zone (or initiial login). So, there's no telling what amount of data is being sent during a zone that isn't sent during normal play.

So what happens? Well - the perma sow hack was well known. Many of the people that knew it also knew that it was not something to be zoned with. But then someone released a program that dumbed down the operation. You ran an executable and then hit some series of characters to start up your sow. That next week there were dozens of bannings. People d/l ed this easy to use program and then ran all over Norrath zoning around.

My point in saying all of this? Well, two really.

First the lesson. There's an old saying that you do not respect power unless you have to work for it. If you don't have to work to attain an ability (in life, EQ, whatever) then you usually don't gain the experience that comes from working on that ability. Why learn to write macros when I can just d/l them here and run them? Do you know what #turbo does? Do you know what that .ini file contains? Do you even know what a hex value is or are you just using them blind? Sure, download this stuff and use it as training wheels, but if you don't take the time to learn what you're actually doing then there's no one to blame in all of this but yourself.

Second, my worries. Does anyone else out there remember the perma sow fiasco? I keep reading about losing everything when zoning sometimes in the new UI. Is it possible that they're trying to find checks on the MQ offsets? I'm not trying to worry anyone, but that would be a bad thing. As a matter of fact I'd like an on off switch for MQ. On it works normal, off it resets the hex values back to their original state. I use EQW anytime I have MQ up, so it's no problem to turn MQ on in another window.

If you download and use MQ then you are effectivly saying that it's ok for VI to ban you. Like with sex, there is no 100% sure safe way not to get banned unless you just don't use it. Also like with sex, it's no fun if you don't. =) Just read up and know what you're getting into.

Only you decide to Accept the EULA, then disregard that EULA by using MQ.

What if you used a 3rd part program to change the EULA so you could click no and it would still let you play the game. :)

That's easy - the EULA and the addendum exist in eqmain.dll. The button ID they use for Accept is 1004 and Cancel 1003 - just switch them.

You can use Get/SetWindowLong() or just a resource editor like MSDev (as long as the patcher doesn't undo your "fix").

So how is not clicking on the EULA gonna help??

If they want to ban you hey will do it. They dont need a reason. If you think "I didnt accept the EULA cause I hacked my game to avoid it" is some sort of defense then I look forward to the result of you using that as your argument.

In fact this is so pointless that the only reason I am gonna hit sumbit is that i already wrote this reply and not submitting it now would be a futher waste
