You can easily put together a great gamer for 500-800 dollars. One to run EQ1, even easier.

MeXican edition. :)
The MX line is the cheapie "bargain" line from that time. The Ti series was the high-end gamer cards from then.

I've built no less than 5 computers for family members using solely pricewatch.com. Just be careful what brand stuff you're ordering. In most cases, you get what you pay for, so generic isn't a good idea.

It's in your best interest to use the links above. I've ordered thousands of dollars of stuff from Newegg over the years and have never had a single problem (that was their fault anyway...stupid Epox qualtiy control...). They are not often the lowest price, but usually right in there, and they have top notch response time and service. When they're out of stock, I use ZipZoomFly (linked above) or Monarch Computer (
www.monarchcomputer.com). Monarch is usually a bit more expensive, but also a top notch company.
Whatever you do, go to a site like
www.resellerratings.com and check up on any company you do business with. Most bad online stores don't stay in business for long these days, as the word gets around too fast, but it still happens. The profit margins in computer hardware are microscopic, so everyone's prices are generally pretty close. The extra 3 bucks you spend on a video card at a reputable place is worth it.

PATCH to fix this

Theres a June 2005 patch due to fix the "chug" when new windows are opened...from what i gather, when you close for example your inventory window its kept in memory only for a short while, no matter how much memory your PC has or how often that item is referred to.
The patch will "remember" which windows and spell effects you cast a lot and keep the most popular ones (spell particle effects for nuke/root, inventory window etc) in memory to stop the "slight pause" effect during loads.
